Social networking platforms have to ensure they aren’t used to commit, provoke terrorism, extremism, violence, crime, Centre tells Delhi HC

New Delhi [India], October 22 (ANI): The Centre has told the Delhi High Court on Friday that the social networking platforms are required to follow due diligence as provided in section 79 of the Information Technology Act 2000 and the Rules notified therein. They have also to follow Article 19(2) of the Constitution and ensure that their platforms are not used to commit and provoke terrorism, extremism, violence and crime.

New Delhi [India], October 22 (ANI): The Centre told the Delhi High Court on Friday that WhatsApp and Facebook that monetise users' information for business/commercial purposes are not legally entitled to claim that they protect privacy. In fact, the regulators of various countries clearly hold that Facebook should be held accountable for its services and data management practices.
