Kohima Mar 23 PTI Despite being a resource-crunch state misappropriation of Rs 207 crore was found in various departments of Nagaland government in financial year 2019-20 a report of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India CAG has said The report tabled in the assembly by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Tuesday said that 26 cases of misappropriation of funds were found It said that Rs 20065 crore was siphoned off in 12 departments and Rs 66 crore in other departments A total of Rs 8279 crore was embezzled in the Department of School Education in two cases with Rs 70 crore awaiting departmental and criminal investigation An amount of Rs 2528 crore siphoned off in the Power Department awaits departmental and criminal investigation The CAG report said that three misappropriation cases amounting to Rs 2379 crore were found in the Public Works Department Road Bridges Department Other departments that reported major misappropriation are Planning and Coordination Rs 2023 crore Tourism Rs 1420 crore and Health Family Welfare Rs 1370 crore The CAG asked the departments concerned to furnish a suo motu explanatory note on the audit reports within one month of placing of the report in the assembly It asked the government without waiting for any notice or call from the Public Accounts Committee to submit a suo motu explanatory note indicating the action taken or proposed to be taken within a period of three months from the date of tabling of the audit report PTI NBS ACD ACD
New Delhi Nov 21 PTI The National Green Tribunal has directed the Railway to ensure that tracks are not used for defecation and waste water disposal from habitation nearby A bench headed by NGT Chairperson Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel said private agencies hired for catering or for sanitary management should not dispose waste other than at designated placesIt needs to be ensured that Railway tracks are not abused for defecation and waste water disposal from habitation nearby the bench saidIn the interest of hygiene public health and clean environment it is necessary that the Railway Board ensures development of a model design planSoP to enable individual stations to evolve a suitable Environment Management plan covering all aspects of waste management the bench said in its November 18 orderThe NGT said the locomotive maintenance working area generating hazardous waste oils scrap etc may have waste processing or treatment facility duly authorised by state pollution control board under waste management rules The green panel noted that out of the 720 major railway stations across the country only 11 have applied for consent in terms of the Water Act and Air Act and only three have applied for authorisation under statutory rules under the Environment Protection ActThe NGT had earlier directed the Railways to identify and develop at least 36 stations as eco-smart stations and to submit an action plan for maintaining cleanliness on platforms and tracksThe green panel had asked the Comptroller and Auditor General to conduct a performance audit at regular intervalsThe NGT had said there was an urgent need for the railways to put in place an effective implementation and monitoring mechanism with provisions of fixing accountability of individuals in respect of solid waste disposal littering of solid and plastic wastes defecation etcThe NGT was hearing a petition filed by lawyers Saloni Singh and Arush Pathania seeking steps to check pollution on railway properties particularly on tracks PTI PKS DV DV
