Pune Mar 19 PTI An eye-witness in the Narendra Dabholkar murder case on Saturday identified alleged shooters Sharad Kalaskar and Sachin Andure in a Pune court that is overseeing the trial an official said Public Prosecutor Prakash Suryavanshi said Kiran Kamble 46 who works as a sweeper in the Pune Municipal Corporation identified Kalaskar and Andure in court After finishing his work he Kamble was sitting on a divider when he heard a sound like a firecracker burst When he saw in the direction from where the sound emanated he saw two people shooting a person the PP said These two people started running in the direction where he Kamble was sitting They reached near the police chowky where they had parked their motorcycle kickstarted it and fled from the spot Then he Kamble reached the spot and saw a person lying in a pool of blood he added Suryavanshi said during cross examination Kamble was asked about the delay in police statement Cross examination will continue on March 23 he added Dabholkar a renowned rationalist and anti-superstition activist was shot dead on August 20 2013 in Pune PTI COR BNM BNM BNM

Pune Nov 19 PTI An independent witness who signed the crime scene inspection report or panchnama following the murder of rationalist Dr Narendra Dabholkar had not actually visited the spot the defense contended before the trial court here on Friday Dabholkar a noted anti-superstition activist was shot dead on the Omkareshwar bridge in the city on August 20 2013 while on morning walk Shyam Marne one of the two panch independent witnesses in whose presence officials of the Deccan Gymkhana police station purportedly carried out panchnama testified before special UAPA judge S R NavandarMarne told special prosecutor Prakash Suryawanshi that he saw a broken pair of spectacles and chappals and blood at the spot besides four cartridges two live and two emptyHe also identified various objects produced as evidence by the prosecution including the bullets and blood-stained clothes in the courtDuring cross-examination by defense lawyer Prakash Salsingikar Marne denied meeting CBI officer D S Chauhan on July 4 2014 and giving his statementAdvocate Salsingikar then pointed out Marnes own statement of July 4 2014 given to CBI deputy superintendent D S ChauhanAs per this statement Marne was called by police to the Deccan Gymkhana station the day after the murder where he was shown various articles purportedly collected from the crime spot the lawyer saidMarnes CBI statement admits that he and another panch witness signed panchnama report at the police station the next day but it was shown as signed on August 20 2013 Salsingikar saidI had not visited the crime spot the lawyer quoted Marne as saying in the statementThe court will examine the other panch witness on the next day November 27The accused in the case include Virendrasinh Tawde Sachin Andure Sharad Kalaskar Sanjeev Punalekar and Vikram Bhave PTI SPK KRK KRK KRK

Mumbai Sep 21 PTI The Bombay High Court on Tuesday issued a notice to the Central Bureau of Investigation CBI and directed it to file a reply to the bail plea of Virendrasingh Tawade a prime accused in the 2013 case of killing of rationalist Narendra Dabholkar in PuneA bench of Justices SS Shinde and NJ Jamadar directed the CBI to file its reply within two weeksThe central agency had arrested Tawade in 2016 and said in its charge-sheet that he was one of the masterminds of the conspiracy to kill the rationalistTawade lodged in Punes Yerwada Jail under judicial custody approached the HC for bail earlier this yearLast week a special court in Pune framed charges against Tawade and three co-accused for the offence of murder under the IPC and relevant provisions of the Unlawful Activities Prevention ActThe fifth accused in the case Sanjeev Punalekar faces charges under IPC section 201 causing disappearance of the evidence or giving false inform to screen offenderThe HC will hear the bail plea further on October 13Dabholkar who headed the Maharashtra Andhashraddha Nirmoolan Samiti an anti-superstition outfit was shot dead in Pune on August 20 2013 PTI AYA RSY RSY
