New Delhi Apr 25 PTI The maximum temperature at the Safdarjung Observatory -- Delhis base station -- settled at 408 degrees Celsius on Tuesday and a heatwave will see it soaring to 44 degrees Celsius by Thursday Several parts of the national capital recorded their maximum temperature above the 42-degree mark with Najafgarh being the warmest place in the city at 426 degrees Celsius Partly cloudy weather due to a Western Disturbance over Afghanistan had provided some relief from a prolonged heatwave spell in northwest India However another punishing heatwave is in the offing The maximum temperature may even soar to 46 degrees Celsius in parts of Delhi a meterological department official saidA yellow alert warning of a heatwave spell in the national capital starting April 28 has been issuedThe India Meteorological Department IMD uses four colour codes for weather warnings -- green no action needed yellow watch and stay updated orange be prepared and red take action The city has recorded eight heatwave days in April this year the maximum since 11 such days witnessed in the month in 2010For the plains a heatwave is declared when the maximum temperature is over 40 degrees Celsius and at least 45 notches above normalA severe heatwave is declared if the departure from normal temperature is more than 64 notches according to the IMDThe weather department had earlier said northwest India and adjoining parts of central India are likely to see more intense and frequent heatwave conditions in AprilIndia recorded its warmest March in 122 years with a severe heatwave scorching large swathes of the country during the monthThe weather department attributed the heat to the lack of rainfall due to the absence of active western disturbances over north India and any major system over south India PTI GVS ANB ANB
New Delhi Apr 19 PTI Delhi reeled under a heatwave on Tuesday with the maximum temperature settling at 426 degree Celsius six notches above the seasons average the India Meteorological Department said This is the highest temperature of the season and the city also recorded a maximum of 426 degrees Celsius on April 11 it said The minimum temperature of the national capital settled at 237 degrees Celsius two notches above the seasons average The humidity oscillated between 31 per cent and 17 per cent it said With record seven days of heatwave it is also considered to be one of the warmest April in Delhi However the Indian Meteorological Department IMD has predicted that the heatwave condition is likely to abate due to an approaching western disturbance wind conditions and cloudiness over the region The IMD also predicted that light isolated rainfall is likely to occur in the national capital till April 22 and strong dust-raising winds speed reaching between 25-35 kmph very likely on April 19 and April 20 Relief is expected as there is a possibility of thunderstorm activity around April 21 and 22 More activity is possible on April 21 This is because of an approaching western disturbance approaching and a circulation over Haryana and adjoining areas Wind pattern will also change a SkymetWeather report said The weather office has predicted generally cloudy sky with light rain or drizzle The maximum and minimum temperature will settle around 41 and 24 degree Celsius respectively The Air Quality Index AQI around 6 pm was 324 according to data recorded by the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research SAFAR An AQI between zero and 50 is considered good 51 and 100 satisfactory 101 and 200 moderate 201 and 300 poor 301 and 400 very poor and 401 and 500 severe PTI ABU CK

New Delhi Jan 29 PTI The national capital on Saturday recorded maximum temperature of 224 degree Celsius which is normal during the season the India Meteorological Department IMD said Delhi witnessed a sunny morning with the minimum temperature settling at 54 degrees Celsius three notches below the seasons average the IMD said According the weather department strong surface winds during day time are expected on Sunday The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to settle around 23 and 7 degrees Celsius respectively The humidity at 530 pm was 43 per cent At 6 pm on Saturday the air quality index AQI of Delhi was recorded at 251 which falls in the poor category according to Central Pollution Control Board CPCB data An AQI between zero and 50 is considered good 51 and 100 satisfactory 101 and 200 moderate 201 and 300 poor 301 and 400 very poor and 401 and 500 severe On Friday the city recorded a maximum temperature of 206 degrees Celsius two notches below normal Delhi witnessed the coldest January day in nine years on Tuesday with the maximum temperature plunging 10 notches below the normal and settling at 121 degrees Celsius Before this on January 3 2013 the city had experienced a maximum temperature of 98 degrees Celsius according to IMD data The capital also recorded 822 mm of rainfall this January the highest in the month in 122 years PTI NIT AAR AAR
