New Delhi [India], September 2 (ANI): The Delhi High Court recently directed the Commissioner of Police (CP) Delhi to ensure that the force is provided during an upcoming demolition drive in Sunder Nagri area of Northeast Delhi.
New Delhi Mar 26 PTI The Delhi Commission for Women DCW has issued a notice to the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board DUSIB over serious lapses being found in a shelter home for mentally challenged women in Subzi Mandi area here A notice has also been issued to the Delhi Police over the rape of an inmate and a former staffer of the shelter home DCW chairperson Swati Maliwal and some members of the panel visited the shelter home being run by NGO Ashray Adhikar Abhiyan The commission found that the shelter housed nine mentally challenged women and girls the DCW said It was seen that no restoration efforts were being undertaken by the shelter for the women some of whom had been living in the shelter since 2014 It was found that proper case files were not maintained and there were no file notings or official records in any of the files it said The DCW also found that no steps were taken to initiate police action in the cases involving inmates The panel also said that proper health records of inmates were not being maintained even though all of them were prescribed medicines by the Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences IHBAS The commission also observed that the shelter was being run by untrained staff and no SoPs were there to deal with the women and any emergencies arising at any time It also found that the facility had no guard during the day When the commission entered the shelter at 6 pm there was no one at the gate and no visitor registers were being maintained it said The commission also noted lack of training or recreational activities for the residents who remained inside throughout the day A former staffer of the home also told DCW that she and a 25-year-old resident of the shelter were raped by two men The Delhi Police has registered an FIR in the matter and is investigating the allegations However no arrests have been made till now the staffer alleged The commission has issued a notice to the DUSIB seeking a detailed action taken report on its observations The commission has asked the DUSIB to provide file noting of the decisions under which this shelter home for mentally challenged persons was set up along with SoPs It has sought copies of reports of inspections conducted by DUSIB officials of this shelter It has also asked for details of action taken against officials and NGO in the matter The commission has also issued a notice to the Delhi Police seeking urgent arrests in the matter along with protection for the survivors The authorities have been given time till 4 pm on March 28 for submission of the replies PTI SLB SMN
New Delhi Mar 23 PTI The Delhi government has floated a tender to install 30 water vending machines with reverse osmosis systems in slum clusters to avoid inconvenience to people who depend on water tankers officials said on Wednesday An official said the 30 water ATMs each having a capacity of 30000 litres will be installed by the end of April as part of a pilot project A Delhi Jal Board DJB tanker carries 3000 litres of water The aim is to eventually replace these tankers with water ATMs according to officials We have floated a tender for the installation of 30 water ATMs The bids will be opened by March end The plan is to install 1000 more such ATMs on the existing tubewells in JJ clusters slum clusters by August end he said The water ATMs will operate round the clock and people living in slum clusters of Delhi will not have to stand in queues for water another official said A tanker becomes empty within 15 minutes of reaching the area Many times the tanker never reaches the destination Now RO-filtered water will be provided 24X7 through these dispensing systems the official said The water ATMs will be installed on the existing tube wells at government facilities such as those belonging to the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board he told PTI These water dispensing systems will gradually replace tankers which cause a lot of inconvenience to people dwelling in such clusters he said The DJB is also considering providing a card to each household so that every family gets a fixed minimum quantity of water every day The card will be provided on the recommendation of the respective area MLA the official said There will be a proper mechanism to prevent overuse of water A fixed quantity will be dispensed per household per day There will be no queues and long waits as these vending machines will operate 24X7 he said With their installation water availability per household also stands to increase The dispensing systems will be a big step forward in preventing water theft And there will not be any chaos for water in slum clusters like it is now a third official said The government will use advanced RO systems in the vending machines to minimise water loss in the purification process These new RO systems will be able to purify 80 per cent of the untreated water The 20 per cent non-potable water will be collected in tanks for other purposes such as bathing and washing PTI GVS CJ CJ
