New Delhi Dec 31 PTI Delhi woke up to cold wave conditions on Friday as the minimum temperature dipped to 38 degrees Celsius according to the India Meteorological Department IMDThe city was swept by a cold wave on Thursday as well as the temperature dropped sharply to 34 degrees Celsius from 84 degrees Celsius on WednesdaySimilar conditions are likely to persist for the next few days the weather department has forecastThe maximum temperature is likely to settle at around 19 degrees Celsius and there will be shallow fog it saidThe weather stations at Delhis Palam and Lodhi Road recorded a minimum temperature of 7 degrees Celsius and 4 degrees Celsius respectively on FridayIn the plains the IMD declares a cold wave if the minimum temperature dips to 4 degrees Celsius A cold wave is also declared when the maximum temperature is 10 degrees Celsius and is 45 notches below normalDelhi had experienced cold wave conditions on December 20 and December 21 as well when the minimum temperature settled at 32 degrees Celsius the lowest so far this season and 4 degrees Celsius respectivelyThe IMD has forecast cold wave to severe cold wave conditions in northwest India till January 3A severe cold wave is when the minimum temperature dips to 2 degrees Celsius or the departure from normal is more than 64 degrees CelsiusThe citys air quality was in the very poor category as the Ministry of Earth Sciences SAFAR system recorded an Air Quality Index AQI of 308 on FridayAn AQI between zero and 50 is considered good 51 and 100 satisfactory 101 and 200 moderate 201 and 300 poor 301 and 400 very poor and 401 and 500 severe PTI MAH RC

7 rescued after fire breaks out in house in Delhi

New Delhi Oct 24 PTI Seven people including two children were rescued after a fire broke out in a house in southwest Delhis Palam village police said on SundayPalam village police station received a PCR call at 902 pm on Saturday that a fire had broken out in a house in the area and a few children were trapped inside they saidPolice personnel rushed to the spot and found that a cooking gas cylinder had caught fire and some people had sustained burn injuries They doused the fire with wet clothes a senior police officer saidSeven people including two women and two children sustained burn injuries and were rescued They were taken to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital and Safdarjung Hospital for treatment the police saidThe injured have been identified as Nathu Lal 65 Jyotsna 56 Ravi Gupta 31 Rajni 28 Shalini 13 Srishti 2 and Ramesh 50 All of them are out of danger they said PTI NIT NIT DIV DIV
