New Delhi Oct 28 PTI Delhis sex ratio at birth has increased from 920 females per thousand males in 2019 to 933in 2020 and the infant mortality rate declined from 2419 to 2037 percent during the same period Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said citing a city government report on ThursdayThe increase in sex ratio is the result of social awareness and it is a matter of great pride that the society is being educated and is understanding the importance of girls Sisodia said in a statementIn Delhi public awareness efforts have also yielded beneficial effects The birth rate fell from 1835 per thousand in 2019 to 1485 per thousand in 2020 In 2020 a number of 301645 births were registered compared to 365868 in 2019 the statement saidThe reduction in infant mortality is the result of great changes in health infrastructure and better access to health facilities to all citizens he saidAccording to the annual report of the Directorate of Economics and Statistics of the Delhi government the sex ratio rate in the national capital increased to 933 females per thousand males in 2020 as compared to 920 in 2019The infant mortality rate in Delhi has also decreased in comparison to 2019 The infant mortality rate per thousand in 2019 was 2419 whereas it was 2037 in 2020 the report showedSisodia also pointed out that the maternal mortality rate in Delhi has also decreased The maternal mortality rate was 055 per 1000 births in 2019 which fell to 054 per 1000 births in 2020The death rate in Delhi has decreased as a result of dramatic changes in the citys health infrastructure and universal access to better health care for all inhabitants According to the data the death rate has decreased from 729 per thousand in 2019 to 703 per thousand in 2020 it added PTI VIT TDS TDS

Around 44 pc people living in Delhi slums depend on bottled water Report

New Delhi Oct 18 PTI Nearly 44 per cent residents of Delhi slums depend on bottled water for drinking purposes while around 76 per cent of households in the city have piped water connections revealed a report based on a survey by the Delhi government It also showed that 71 per cent of household dwellings were connected to the piped sewer system and 285 per cent were using the flush to septic tank system The report was based on the results of the State Sample of 76th national sample survey on Drinking Water Sanitation Hygiene and Housing Condition carried out by the Directorate of Economics and Statistics of the Delhi government The report was delayed first due to the assembly polls in Delhi in 2020 and later due to the Covid pandemic officials said The report prepared by the Data Processing and Analysis Unit of the directorate showed 76 per cent dwellings had piped water supply 75 per cent used tube wells and seven per cent bottled water while 38 per cent used public tap and 33 per cent depended on water tankers The number of households using bottled water as the primary source of drinking water doubled between 2012 and 2018 In slums around 44 per cent of households used bottled water for drinking purposes according to the survey For sampling purposes the survey was spread over 210 first stage units 36 villages and 174 urban framework survey blocks covering 2502 households 432 in rural areas and 2070 in urban areas It enumerated 10986 people 2083 in rural areas and 8903 urban areas There was negligible use of hand pumps in Delhi whereas at all India level maximum 305 per cent households used it as a principal source of drinking water In Delhi 911 per cent of the households had sufficient drinking water throughout the year 807 per cent in rural areas and 913 per cent in urban areas that was higher than 887 per cent at all India level the report added PTI VIT SNE
