New Delhi Mar 21 PTI The Delhi University Teachers Association DUTA has called for a boycott of classes on Tuesday to press for its demands on a series of issues including one-time regulation for absorption of ad-hoc and temporary teachers DUTA members will be staging a protest outside the Delhi Universitys academic council meeting on Tuesday Their demands include restoration of workload and credits for discipline specific courses under the Undergraduate Curriculum Framework that will be implemented by the university from 2022-23 academic session The academic council will discuss the admission process under Common University Entrance Test CUET According to a proposal by the Standing Committee of the academic council the admission to Delhi University colleges from the next academic year could be solely based on CUET scores if the varsitys decision-making bodies clear a proposal in this regardThe universitys academic council will meet on Tuesday to discuss changes in the admission process to colleges in view of the varsity adopting the entrance test systemWith the implementation of CUET and based on decisions taken in the meeting the Delhi University DU will be doing away with the earlier system of admission under which it used to announce cut-offs based on Class 12 board resultsMoreover the minimum Class 12 board exam marks to take CUET will be the passing marksThe decisions taken in the academic council meeting are likely to be taken up in the universitys executive council meeting scheduled for March 25The executive council is the highest decision-making body of the varsityThe Standing Committee of the Academic Council in its meeting on March 17 had recommended that admissions to the varsity be solely based on CUET scoresAccording to the minutes of the meeting the members said that it will not be feasible to include any other criterion based on marks obtained in board examinationsThe minutes stated that the members felt that the eligibility criterion must be inclusive to invite a large number of candidates from across the countryMinimum criteria should be rephrased as the candidates must have passed the Class XII examination or equivalent thereto from a single recognised board read the minutes of the meetingThe members have suggested that candidates must appear in CUET in only those subjects in which they have cleared Class 12In case the subject studied in Class 12 is not mentioned in CUET members proposed that candidates must appear in the subject that is similar or closely related to the subject they have studied in Class 12Merit will be calculated on the basis of combination of subjects in which a candidate has appeared in CUET as mentioned in the programme-specific eligibility the minutes readThe standing committee was also of the view that admission to all supernumerary seats excluding foreign students be done through CUETIt proposed that for admission to courses under the faculty of music and fine arts and BSc in physical education and sports combined CUET score and performance based test with 50 per cent weightage to both will be givenIt was also decided that admission to minority colleges like St Stephens and Jesus and Mary will also be done through CUET PTI SLB CK

New Delhi Jan 20 PTI The Delhi University Teachers Association DUTA has threatened to intensify its protest against the city government over non-release of funds to 12 varsity colleges funded by it The DUTA also questioned the formation of a committee by the government to analyze the utilization of funds by the colleges What is the point of the formation of the committee The committee will find those things that have already been furnished by the colleges through their budgets that are approved by the governing bodies that have elected members from the Aam Aadmi Party DUTA president AK Bhagi said at an online press conference The Delhi government on Monday had constituted a seven-member committee to look into the utilisation and management of funds of the 12 colleges funded by the AAP dispensation Bhagi said they had started an online petition to Delhi LG Anil Baijal over the issue that received 6000 signatures from teachers We have submitted the petition to LGs office he added He shared that the DUTA Executive will meet on Saturday to discuss ways to intensify their stir over the issue The Delhi government and the 12 colleges have been locked in a tussle over release of funds for a long time PTI SLB CK

New Delhi Nov 25 PTI Delhi University Teachers Association DUTA elections will be held on Friday with the Left-backed Democratic Teachers Front DTF vying to retain the presidents post again The DTF has been winning the elections for the last five terms The absorption of teachers is on the agenda of every party in the fray This time the ad-hoc teachers have formed the Ad hoc Teachers Front and they will be represented by Shabana Azmi an ad-hoc political science teacher in Zakir Husain College for the DUTA presidents post Their primary demand is for one-time absorption of ad-hoc teachers in the university The DTF has fielded Abha Dev Habib for the post of DUTA president and Jitendra Kumar Meena Nandita Narain Rudrashish Chakraborty and VS Dixit for the DUTA executive Their poll planks include the demand for one-time regulation for absorption of ad-hoc teachers roll back of implementation of the National Education Policy and the four-year undergraduate programme The right-wing National Democratic Teachers Front NDTF has fielded last years runner-up AK Bhagi as its presidential candidate Bhagi had lost to DTF candidate and the current DUTA president Rajob Ray by a slim margin in the last election The NDTF is also pitching for the one-time regularisation of ad-hoc teachers opposing the grant cut of 12 DU colleges fully funded by the Delhi government by the AAP dispensation along with other issues The Aam Aadmi Party teachers wing Delhi Teachers Association DTA is also in the fray and has fielded its president Hansraj Suman as a candidate for the DUTA executive Their election manifesto was released by Environment Minister Gopal Rai on Wednesday Their poll demand is the regularisation and absorption of ad-hoc teachers working in 28 Delhi University colleges partially or fully funded by the Delhi government The Academics For Action and Development AAD has fielded Dr Prem Chand for the presidents post and Dr Amit Singh Anand Prakash Anju Jain and Jainendra Mishra for DUTA executive and their demand is also one-time regulation for absorption of ad-hoc teachers PTI SLB CK
