Study examines connection between shark nose shape, size, smell sensitivity

29-Nov-2022
Sharks are known as "super smellers," as they employ olfaction to detect smells associated with finding prey and mates, communicating with their own species, and avoiding predators. Unlike humans, their olfactory system is independent of their respiratory system. Sharks and other fish use gills to help them absorb oxygen, while two nares or nostrils on the shark's head absorb scents from their surroundings.
