Jaipur Mar 25 PTI A man was detained at the Jaipur International Airport upon his arrival from Dubai for carrying gold paste valued at Rs 1945 lakh concealed inside his shoes a customs official said FridayAccording to the official the mans behaviour caused suspicion among the security personnel as he was about to hand over his luggage including the shoes to a person who had come to receive it at the airportThe man was detained after a brief chase officials saidWhile searching him yellowish granular paste packed in two transparent polyethene capsules and wrapped in paper was found concealed inside the shoes the customs official saidThe official said that 36990 gram gold of 9950 per cent purity was extracted from the paste and seized under the provisions of the Customs Act 1962 PTI AG NSD

New Delhi Oct 29 PTI A team of 12 doctors and paramedics undertook a nine-hour-long surgery to treat a 35-year-old man whose metallic stent had migrated from the liver to the heart causing rupture in the aortic sinus a leading private hospital here said on FridayAccording to medical literature the cause of rupture migration of a stent to the heart has not been previously recorded it claimedDuring the surgery his heart was stopped using a very advanced technique and the metallic stent was cut and trimmed his aortic rupture was closed and his right sided heart valve was repaired it said adding that the entire surgery took almost nine hours with a team of 12 doctors and paramedicsDoctors at the Fortis Escorts Heart Institute operated on the male patient who had developed a large hole inside his main arterial pipe called the aorta that was caused by a metal stent which was placed inside a vein in the liver the statement saidThis metal stent slowly migrated from the liver through the vein into the right side of the heart called right atrium and then subsequently ruptured the aortaThe metallic stent had been placed inside his inferior vena cava the main vessel to receive blood from the lower half of the body as the patient had previously been diagnosed with a liver condition called the Budd chiari syndrome The patient was showing severe symptoms of heart failure deranged liver function and low platelet count His surgery was quite challenging as the metallic stent was totally buried inside his hearts veinThe patients right side of the heart became almost like a large football due to right sided valve failure and an excessive blood flow to the right heart This condition is called a shunt where blood flows abnormally inside the heart from one chamber to the other the statement saidThe main challenges in this surgery were very high risk of heart rupture uncontrolled bleeding and liver failure after surgery In general surgery of this nature have only 30 per cent chance of survival it said Dr Ritwik Raj Bhuyan Director Cardiothoracic Vascular Surgery Fortis Escorts Heart Institute said The patient had visited several hospitals for treatment However he had been denied the same as this was a very complicated case He came to us with the complaints of uneasiness breathlessness and chest painWe investigated and found that right chamber of the heart was ruptured We operated and after two weeks he was discharged and had resumed his normal activities According to published medical literature such an incident has not previously occurred As the patient had deranged liver and heart function he will need cardiac rehabilitation for at least three months and should avoid alcohol smoking and drink moderate amount of fluid the doctor added PTI SLB TDS TDS

SDMC identifies 1200 illegal mobile towers in its jurisdiction

New Delhi Sep 24 PTI The South Delhi Municipal Corporation SDMC has identified nearly 1200 illegal mobile towers in its jurisdiction and has warned of strict action against property owners and telecom companies for such installations without taking permission from the civic body officials said on FridayAccording to SDMC officials the civic body has slapped heavy fines against such illegal installations SDMC officials said that the number of illegal mobile towers was ascertained during an ongoing survey to identify such installations after many complaints from residents regarding burgeoning number of mobile towers even in inner colonies SDMC Mayor Mukesh Suryan said that no illegal mobile tower will be spared and huge fines will be levied against any such installation which is done without the municipalitys approvalIn our ongoing survey so far we have identified 1190 illegal mobile towers These towers were set up without seeking any permission from the SDMC We will impose huge penalties against them We have already slapped fines against 390 illegal towers and will slap fines on other 800 such installations Suryan told PTIThe mayor said that these fines are issued not only against the telecom company or the contractor but also against the owner of the propertyHe said all the the parties are equally responsible for such illegal activities because it is also responsibility of the owner of the building to inform the municipality about the installation The penalty amount will be recovered in retrospective manner from violators the Mayor saidCivic officials said that it is mandatory to seek permission from the civic body before installing mobile towers in any area The mayor said that the issue of illegal mobile towers was brought to his notice a few months back by councillors as well as the general public so a special House meeting was convened in August first week to address issues related with mobile towers In the House meeting the mayor had directed civic officials to start a survey to identify mobile towers running illegally in SDMC areas The fine being imposed in connection with illegal mobile towers goes up to lakhs It varies for every property depending upon the time period of installation and the area No illegal mobile tower will be spared and concerned people will have to pay penalty Suryan said He however could not divulge the details about the amount of revenue collected in the driveOfficials of the SDMCs Remunerative Cell said that the action will not only regulate installation and operation of mobile towers in south Delhi but also boost the municipalitys revenue The civic body is going though a fund crunch so imposing penalty on illegally running mobile towers will strengthen municipalitys coffers an official said Earlier this week the North Delhi Municipal Corporation had also issued a direction to put on hold installation of new cellular on wheels mobile towers in its areas and review already identified sites after people complained that many were located in inner colonies or small parksPTI AKM DV DV
