Mumbai Jan 28 PTI One more person on Friday succumbed to injuries sustained in a fire that erupted in a multi-storey residential building at Tardeo in south Mumbai a civic official said With the latest fatality the toll in the fire that took place on January 22 rose to nine he said Dhaval Salaskar 23 who was undergoing treatment at Byculla-based Masina Hospital was declared dead at 515 pm the official said quoting information received from doctors Earlier at least six people had died and 24 others were injured in the blaze that broke out at Sachinam Heights a ground-plus-20-storey building located opposite Bhatia Hospital at Gowalia Tank A total of 30 people were injured in the incident of which nine are dead eight are undergoing treatment with five of them in a critical condition and three others stable As many as 13 victims have been discharged the official said A 35-year-old woman who was undergoing treatment at the civic-run Kasturba Hospital succumbed to her injuries on Thursday PTI KK ARU ARU

Mumbai Jan 24 PTI One more person on Monday succumbed to injuries suffered in a fire that broke out in a multi-storey residential building at Tardeo in Mumbai raising the death toll in the incident to seven a civic official said The 38-year-old male patient who was undergoing treatment at the BYL Nair Hospital was declared dead at 7 am the official said as per information received from doctors Out of the 12 other injured people undergoing treatment in Bhatia Hospital six were critical and the remaining were stable he said adding that another injured person being treated at Masina Hospital in Byculla area was also critical Earlier six people had died and 24 others were injured in the blaze that erupted on Saturday at Sachinam Heights a ground-plus-20-storey building located opposite the Bhatia Hospital at Gowalia Tank With the death of one more victim the toll has gone up to seven and the number of injured people stands at 23 of whom seven have already been discharged while the others are undergoing treatment in different hospitals the official said PTI KK GK GK

Mumbai Jan 23 PTI Mumbai police have registered six accidental death reports ADRs in connection with the fire that broke out in a residential building in Tardeo area of central Mumbai which claimed six lives and left 23 others injured an official said on Sunday The blaze had erupted on Saturday around 730 am at Sachinam Heights a ground-plus-20-storey building located opposite Bhatia Hospital at Gowalia Tank As the fire claimed the lives of six persons separate accidental death reports were registered at the Gamdevi police station on Saturday night the police official said The police are waiting for a report by the fire department as well as the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transports BEST electricity wing to know the exact cause of fire although preliminary investigation has revealed that it broke out due to a power short circuit he said Officials had said that the fire was extinguished nearly five hours after it broke out Deputy Commissioner of Police Sourabh Tripathi had said that primary information indicated that the fire started on the 15th floor and spread upward to the 19th floor which was affected the most Following the incident the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation BMC set up an inquiry committee PTI ZA NP NP

Mumbai Jan 22 PTI Residents of the Mumbai building where fire claimed six lives on Saturday said they heard a loud sound followed by black smoke and recalled the frenzy of those living there to get out to safety We heard a big noise and rushed outside There was black smoke coming out of some floors above us We immediately rushed downstairs and came into the open area a resident said At least six persons were killed and 23 others injured in a major fire that broke out on the 19th floor of Sachinam Heights a residential building in Tardeo area of central Mumbai on Saturday morning A 50-year-old woman who lives on the fifth floor said I heard some noise like firecrackers and realised that something is wrong As we were all scared I fell down twice while helping my husband to climb down the staircase I dont recall how I reached the open area she said Residents of the Matrumandir building near Sachinam Heights attributed the blaze to an AC compressor explosion We were on the terrace early in the morning when we heard a loud noise which sounded like some kind of an explosion We saw the fire and smoke coming out of a flat and immediately called the fire brigade a resident of Matrumandir told reporters We then called other fellow residents of our society to make arrangements for rescued citizens of that building to rest in the open space area of our building he said A resident of Sachinanm Heights said he had returned from Kurla railway station just before the blaze It was shortly after 7 am when the fire broke out We were later told it was due to a short circuit I had gone out to drop my mother at Kurla station When I returned I was in the room and heard a loud sound he said Suddenly the lights went off I saw smoke in gallery There was a melee of residents trying to get out Many were injured Some sustained head injuries The injured included many senior citizens he said A woman who lived on the 14th floor of the building said she came to know of the blaze after being woken up by a friend following which they rushed outside Another woman living on the fourth floor said We came to know of the fire shortly after 7 am When we came outside the building there was a fat-fat sound outside a cabin which presumably housed the AC compressor There was smoke first and then there were flames she said Asked how did she come out of the building she said she used the stairs Many residents of the Sachinam building were shifted to the Matrumandir building where they were given tea and snacks by people there The blaze erupted around 7 am in Sachinam Heights building located opposite Bhatia Hospital at Gowalia Tank when many of its residents were still asleep a Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation BMC official said It took around six hours to extinguish the blaze the official said PTI ND VT VT VT
