The Union government is considering bringing a quality control order for silk with an aim to contain import of sub-standard product and boost domestic industry, Union Commerce and Industries Minister Piyush Goyal said on Thursday.
Piyush Goyal said that textile is a sector where margins of 5 per cent are very important to become competitive, adding, "With the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with countries we are insisting that we get duty-free access for Indian textiles. Both in UAE and Australia textile sector assures me that the possibilities for growth are huge. We are working on FTAs which will all give a boost to the textile sector."
Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Tuesday held a meeting with UK Secretary of State for International Trade Kemi Badenoch in New Delhi to discuss India-UK free-trade agreement (FTA) negotiations.
He added, "They are not even backed by RTI (Right to Information). They are a lot of cases when you go for fact-checking and it would come out with fake claims. There is a senior member in the House in the front."
Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution and Textiles, Piyush Goyal on Thursday said that India will have to face global competition effectively to achieve the goal of becoming a prosperous and developed nation.
The Union minister held talks with the Karnataka chief minister in the presence of state Minister for Large and Medium Irrigation and Water Resources Govind M Karjol and Additional Chief Secretary for the Water Resources department, Rakesh Singh.
The deal which was signed on April 2, 2022, is now ready for ratification for its early implementation. The Agreement will enter into force shortly, on a mutually convenient date once both sides have completed their domestic processes.
"It is a landmark moment for Australia and India, would like to congratulate the PMs of India and Australia for achieving this significant milestone today. These are 2 democracies with shared interests on the world stage," Goyal said.
