New Delhi Dec 27 PTI The South Delhi Municipal Corporation has started a initiative Vikalp to discourage usage of single-use plastic bags in its south zone an official statement said Under the initiative shoppers who do not bring cloth bags can take a cloth bag by depositing Rs 20 at Vikalp stalls in markets A customer can return the bag at the Vikalp stall after using it and get refund of the money There is no time limit to return these bags and a person can return the bag at any of Vikalp stall the statement saidIn view of the Swachh Survekshan-2022 Vikalp stalls are being set up in various markets under jurisdiction of the civic bodyDeputy Commissioner South Zone Ankita Chakravarty said 22 such stalls have been set up in 14 markets such as those is Green Park Yusuf Sarai Hauz Khas SDA Saket Arbindo Market Greater Kailash and Chitranjan Park Market among othersChakravarty said that stickers of Vikalp stalls in markets are being pasted at shops so that customers can know their location The official appealed to shopkeepers to make people aware about single-use plastic and its ill effects With the facility of cloth bags in a market people will develop the habit of using cloth bags instead of plastic ones People will be made aware about the move through Nukkad Nataks street plays and other awareness campaigns Chakravarty said in the statement PTI AKM ANB ANB
New Delhi Dec 21 PTI A day after a man was found dead at his rented house in south Delhis Greater Kailash police on Tuesday said he might have died due to substance abuse The deceased identified as Rahul Thakur 36 hailed from Jammu Kashmir and worked at Dilli Haat Art Gallery they said According to police the autopsy surgeon told the security personnel that the victim was not smothered to death Further the possible reason for death could be due to 70-80 per cent heart blockage which could have been due to substance abuse a senior police officer said No arrests have been made yet in the case The exact cause of death can only be ascertained through the autopsy report which is expected in two-three days police said On Monday around 940 am we got a PCR call from the owner of a flat at Greater Kailash about the incident When police reached the spot Thakur was found lying unconscious inside the flat Deputy Commissioner of Police South Benita Mary Jaikar said According to police Thakur lived with his mother Anita in the house which he had rented a month ago They said the mother of the deceased had left for their native place in Jammu and Kashmir few days back A case of murder was registered by the police on Monday and three mobile phones along with some illegal drugs were found from the spot Jaikar said Police said they are scanning CCTVs in the area and spotted few people leaving the house at night They are being identified and questioned PTI AMP SRY

New Delhi : The man accused of raping a six-year-old girl in the national capital’s Ranjit Nagar area on Friday has been identified and arrested, the police said on Sunday. The man, in his early 20s, was seen with the minor girl at a busy street in the area. A CCTV footage from the area showed the girl following the accused after she was allegedly lured by him.
