Ahmedabad Mar 30 PTI Gujarat on Wednesday reported nine new coronavirus positive cases which took the states overall tally to 1223893 the health department said A total of 37 patients were discharged from hospitals raising the recovery count to 1212829 it said As nobody succumbed to the infection during the day the fatality count in the state remained unchanged at 10942 the department said in a release The number of active cases in Gujarat now stands at 122 of which one patient is on ventilator support it said As many as 83154 people were given anti-coronavirus vaccine doses during the day taking the total number of jabs administered so far to 1060 crore District-wise Ahmedabad reported four new cases Vadodara two and Anand Gandhinagar and Kutch one case each The neighbouring Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli Daman and Diu does not have any active COVID-19 cases as on date officials said Gujarats COVID-19 figures are as follows Positive cases 1223893 new cases nine death toll 10942 discharged 1212829 active cases 122 people tested so far - figures not released PTI KA NP NP

Ahmedabad Feb 28 PTI Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Monday welcomed 27 students hailing from the state who reached Gandhinagar in a bus from Delhi where they had landed after evacuation from Ukraine by a special flight In the last two days around 100 students studying in war-torn Ukraine have reached their home state Gujarat from Mumbai and Delhi The 27 students who reached capital city Gandhinagar hail from different parts of Gujarat The state government is making arrangements to send them along with their parents to their respective destinations the government said in a statement Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Monday morning welcomed the youths with flowers and asked about their well-being The students had reached the Gandhinagar circuit house from Delhi by the Volvo bus around Sunday midnight the Chief Ministers Office said Patel interacted with the students and assured their parents of all possible help from the government Gujarat Education Minister Jitu Vaghani and other senior government officials were also present to welcome the students who thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for facilitating their evacuation and CM Patel for arranging for their return to the state the CMO said The state government has been making arrangements of buses to bring the students from Mumbai and Delhi A special bus was sent to Delhi and a task force from the state education department was deputed to receive the students after they arrived there The students reached the circuit house in Gujarats capital Gandhinagar around Sunday midnight The government arranged for the accomodation and food for the students and their parents who reached the state capital to receive them A large number of Indians mostly students are stranded in Ukraine following Russias attack on the country India has begun evacuating them and over 900 people have been brought back since Saturday PTI KA PD GK GK

Ahmedabad Feb 18 PTI A special court Friday sentenced 38 people to death in the 2008 Ahmedabad serial blast case As many as 56 people were killed in the blasts that rocked Gujarats capital on July 26 2008The court sentenced 38 of the 49 convicts to death under provisions of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act UAPA and Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code The 11 others were sentenced to life in jail till deathJudge A R Patel also awarded compensation of Rs one lakh each to those killed in the blasts and Rs 50000 for each victim with serious injuries and Rs 25000 each for those with minor onesThe court also imposed a fine of Rs 285 lakh each on the 48 convictsPatel had on February 8 declared 49 of the total 78 accused as guilty under various offences of the Indian Penal Code including for murder sedition and waging war against the state as well as under offences of the UAPA and Explosive Substances ActBombs went off in Ahmedabad on July 26 2008 at various spots including the state government-run civil hospital Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation-run LG Hospital on buses parked bicycles in cars and other places killing 56 persons PTI PJT PD NP VT VT VT
