Jammu Apr 23 PTI A day ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modis visit a Jammu-based morcha of mainstream political parties and social organisations including the Congress and the National Conference on Saturday advocated the immediate restoration of statehood and democracy in Jammu and KashmirThe All Parties United Morcha APUM which also includes the CPIM CPM Dogra Sadar Sabha United Peace Alliance and the Internationalist Democratic Party sought the prime ministers intervention in addressing the shortcomings in the draft proposal prepared by the delimitation commission for JKAddressing a joint press conference here leaders of the morcha including Congress chief spokesperson and former legislator Ravinder Sharma former MP Sheikh Abdul Rehman and former minister Ram Paul of the National Conference observed a two-minute silence to pay tributes to the CISF officer who died in an attack by terrorists on a bus in the Sunjwan area of JammuTwo Jaish-e-Mohammed suicide squad members were also killed in the subsequent encounter lasting over five hoursJammu and Kashmir is passing through a crucial phase as our historic state was brutally dismembered and downgraded We are also deprived of a democratically elected government since June 2018 Sharma told reporters hereHe said the morcha held a discussion last week and has decided to come together and remind the prime minister who is coming to Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday of his promise to the people about the restoration of statehoodSharma said all the parties are united in their demand for early restoration of statehood and democracy in Jammu and KashmirRejecting the draft report of the delimitation commission for JK the Congress leader said It is a big fraud with the people as there are numerous shortcomings and the report is not in sync with ground realities and is bound to cause huge inconvenience to the public National Panthers Party leader and former minister Harsh Dev Singh invited the attention of the prime minister towards the ever-growing unemployment in JK and appealed to him to address the concerns of the educated unemployed and the underemployed in the union territory on priority PTI TAS IJT

Jammu Jan 24 PTI Taking a dig at the government for its District Good Governance Index DGGI for Jammu and Kashmir the National Panthers Party NPP on Monday said the union territory was passing through its worst phase of misrule The first-ever DGGI virtually released by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday is a framework document comprising performances under 10 governance sectors having 58 indicators with 116 data points which include agriculture services commerce and industry human resources environment justice and public safety social welfare and development NPP chairman and former minister Harsh Dev Singh said there was hardly any sign of governance in Jammu and Kashmir Leave aside good governance or bad governance The fact is there is no governance at all There are no takers for the shrill cries of the public who continue to suffer for want of even the basic amenities the NPP leader claimed He alleged that the union territory was hit hard by power crisis water crisis health care crisis dilapidated roads increased cost of living and deteriorating law and order while development has taken a back seat and corruption has become all pervasive Rather than indulging in such incessant chest-thumping and self-praise the government needed to reach out to the people particularly in remote and far-flung areas so as to mitigate the sufferings of the ailing humanity Singh said He accused the BJP of imposing proxy rule in Jammu and Kashmir through obsequious bureaucrats and defanged experts requisitioned from outside Jammu and Kashmir having hardly any knowledge of the history culture geography and languages of the erstwhile state The result was the collapse of the administrative set up with the public at large eventually becoming the casualty of the failed system And shockingly the government was talking of good governance What a paradox he said Claiming that the people have hardly any access to the corridors of power Singh said The self-certified good governance by the present regime has only evoked cynicism rather than apprehension in view of the all-round disenchantment prevalent in the union territory against the government PTI TAS AB CJ CJ

Jammu Oct 31 PTI The Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party JKNPP on Sunday accused the BJP of using money and muscle power to break opposition parties in the union territory after several leaders joined the BJP in the past few weeks The NPP claimed that it was also being targeted by the BJP and many of its leaders and workers were being seduced or being threatened to quit Dozens of prominent leaders including former National Conference legislators Devender Singh Rana S S Slathia Prem Sagar Aziz and Kamal Arora have joined the BJP along with hundreds of their supporters recently While several opposition leaders are falling in the lap of BJP one by one it is only a handful of leaders who are putting up a brave fight against the dictatorial and anti-people policies of the present authoritarian regime The BJP is resorting to coercion threats intimidation offers and allurements to break the opposition parties in a bid to establish its monopoly in the political landscape of JK NPP chairman and former minister Harsh Dev Singh said addressing a rally in Udhampur district He said it is astonishing to note the opposition leaders in Jammu are abandoning their respective parties on a regular basis and embracing the BJP which they had termed anti-Jammu in the past Singh claimed that many of his party leaders and workers were being seduced or being threatened to quit the party We will stand with the people through thick and thin and continue to expose the BJP for all its acts of subterfuge and political blasphemy as only a selected few were left on the political turf to oppose BJP he saidPTI TAS SMN SMN
