Hyderabad Dec 23 PTI Telangana on Thursday recorded 177 new COVID-19 cases taking the tally to 680251 while the toll rose to 4018 with one more fatality The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation accounted for the most number of fresh cases with 93 followed by Rangareddy District 16 a health department bulletin said providing details as of 530 PM No Omicron case was reported today The number of recoveries outnumbered fresh cases with 190 people recuperating from the disease taking the cumulative numbers to 672637 Active cases stood at 3596 the bulletin said Over 38000 samples were tested today taking the total number tested so far to 294 crore The samples tested per million population were nearly 791 lakh PTI GDK BN BN
Hyderabad Dec 23 PTI In the biggest ever haul of cocaine in Telangana the Cyberabad Police on Thursday said 183 grams of the narcotic substance was seized and three people including a drug peddler were arrested in this connection A police team on Wednesday apprehended two persons consumers from a flat here along with two grams of cocaine and based on their information the police took into custody the drug peddler who is an Arabic Tutor from his house and seized 181 grams of cocaine and 44 ecstasy tablets In addition to this three mobile phones were also seized The value of the seized items is estimated at Rs 2628 lakh Cyberabad Police Commissioner M Stephen Raveendra said adding this is the biggest haul of cocaine till date in Telangana The drug peddler told police that in view of the New Year he procured huge quantity of cocaine from the main organiser and drug supplier Zude alias Chris belonging to Nigeria and a resident of Goa who is absconding The accused further disclosed that he brought cocaine many times from Goa and sold it in Hyderabad police said The Commissioner said during 2021 till now a total of 202 cases were registered by Cyberabad Police and as many as 419 accused were arrested from whom ganja hashish oil weed oil MDMA Opium ecstasy pills LSD papers were seized Preventive Detention PD Act was invoked against 23 drug offenders Police has stepped up its drive against ganja trade in Cyberabad Commissionerate limits and continuous raids are being conducted on a daily basis Raveendra said Bulk buyers local retailers and drug transporters were on police radar in order to curb ganja peddling and usage the senior police official added PTI VVK BN BN

Hyderabad Dec 20 PTI The Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation CDSCO has approved the extension of Bharat Biotechs COVID-19 vaccine Covaxins shelf life up to 12 months from the date of manufacture the vaccine-maker said This approval of shelf life extension is based on the availability of additional stability data which was submitted to CDSCO With the shelf life extension hospitals can now utilise the stock to avoid vaccine wastage a press release said Covaxin is approved for use under the 28-day multi-dose vial policy from Drug Controller General of India and the WHO Emergency Use Listing WHO EUL Covaxin Open Vial is stable at 2 to 8 degrees Celsius for 28 days and not required to be discarded immediately in a day or at the end of immunisation session Bharat Biotech said it believes in doing a bit for the environment The multi-dose vial policy saves money for procurement agencies by reducing the cold chain logistics and management thereby reducing the carbon footprint costs related to open vial wastage cold chain distribution cold chain storage and biomedical waste disposal among others Most importantly we believe in being environmentally friendly by reducing the quantum of packing materials and single-use plastics that are utilised in vaccines manufacturing storage distribution and disposal the company said PTI GDK NVG NVG

Hyderabad Dec 17 PTI A man died after allegedly being beaten up by some hotel staff members here who suspected his intentions when he went into the hotels cellar after midnight police said on Friday The man a labourer from Odisha entered the cellar on December 15 when some staff members were celebrating the birthday of a colleague there they said They allegedly questioned him and beat him up Those working at the hotel found his fathers who lives in Odisha mobile number in his pocket and told him about the incident on Thursday morning The father informed his daughter-in-law and she took her husband home She did not take him to hospital as there were no major visible injuries The man however died at home She then informed police about the incident A case of murder was registered and investigation was in progress police said It was not immediately clear as to why the man entered the hotel cellar after midnight they added PTI SJR BN BN
