Mumbai Mar 18 PTI Nearly 800 abandoned vehicles were seized and over 2300 people were issued notices by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation in the last one week as part of a drive to remove such vehicles from along the metropolis roads an official said on Friday He said 782 such vehicles were seized 2381 owners were issued notices which led to 379 of them removing their abandoned vehicles themselves the civic official said This was being done by the citys traffic police during the COVID-19 pandemic but now such drives are being undertaken by civic staff he added The drive began after a meeting between municipal commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal and Mumbai police We have seized 314 two-wheelers 286 three-wheelers and 182 four-wheelers These vehicles will be auctioned after completion of legal formalities he said PTI ZA BNM BNM BNM

Mumbai Feb 21 PTI Mumbai on Monday reported 96 new COVID-19 cases the lowest single-day rise after April 17 2020 and one fatality due to coronavirus infection the city civic body said With the addition of fresh cases the tally of infections in Mumbai rose to 1055657 and the COVID-19 death toll to 16476 a Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation BMC bulletin said Generally the city reports fewer cases on Mondays due to less number of tests conducted on Sundays A total of 16476 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours taking the count of samples tested so far in Mumbai to 16045437 On Sunday the city had logged 167 coronavirus cases and zero fatalities Around 82 per cent or 79 of fresh 96 patients are asymptomatic it said The case positivity rate of Mumbai now stands at 058 per cent Presently Mumbai has 1415 active COVID-19 cases In the last 24 hours only 17 patients were hospitalised for COVID-19 and only four of them are on oxygen support Only 807 of the total 36308 hospital beds are currently occupied by COVID-19 patients in the city the bulletin said With 188 more patients being discharged from hospitals the number of recoveries in Mumbai went up to 1034681 Mumbais case recovery rate now stands at 98 per cent while the rate of doubling of cases has crossed 3000 days to 3313 days The overall growth rate of COVID-19 cases for the period between February 14 to February 20 stood at 002 per cent the bulletin said Mumbai has been free of sealed buildings and containment zones for more than a week Mumbai had reported the highest 20971 cases on January 7 this year during the third wave which according to municipal commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal started on December 21 2021 Last year Mumbai had reported the highest 11163 cases on April 4 The city had recorded the highest 90 fatalities on May 1 2021 PTI KK NSK NSK

Mumbai Dec 20 PTI Amid the fear of spread of the Omicron variant of coronavirus Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation BMC Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal has appealed to citizens to avoid gatherings and parties during the upcoming Christmas festival and New Year and warned of stringent action against those who flout rules Maharashtra has so far reported 54 cases of the Omicron variant Out of these 22 are from Mumbai including cases found through screening at the international airport here as per official data In a press release issued on Sunday Chahal said due to the new virus variant Omicron the situation at many countries in the world has once again gone out of control and has created a lockdown-like situation He said despite repeated appeals by the government and administration to prevent a possible third wave of COVID-19 the guidelines are not being followed properly in most places - especially at wedding ceremonies and other functions and there is a need to curb the growing crowds at such events Chahal asked citizens to strictly adhere to rules regarding attendance at weddings and other functions Avoid any kind of crowding wear masks and follow COVID-19 guidelines All citizens must also get fully vaccinated the civic chief said adding that people should also follow all rules in hotels restaurants cinemas malls and other places The BMC body has deployed squads at ward levels to take action against those who violate rules he said Those violating the COVID-19 rules will be dealt with severely by the BMCs ward level teams as well as the Mumbai Police administration he said Chahal said in the near future the risk of COVID-19 spread may increase if programmes and functions are held on Christmas and New Year There is also a need to curb the growing crowd at weddings and other functions he said In order to prevent such a situation in India as well as in Maharashtra the central and state governments are continuously appealing to people and requesting them to take precautions The BMC administration has also appealed to Mumbaikars to be vigilant he said According to the BMC Maharashtra chief secretary issued an order on November 27 and laid down the guidelines to curb the spread of COVID-19 The Mumbai Police also issued a notification on December 14 stating that action will be taken against violators as per the Indian Penal Code as well as the Epidemic Diseases Act and the National Disaster Management Act As per the state governments guidelines in close indoor halls only 50 per cent people of the total capacity of those halls must be allowed to attend an event while in open spaces only 25 per cent people of the total capacity of the place must be allowed If more than 1000 people are to come together for any event at an open space it is mandatory to get prior approval from the local disaster management authority say the guidelines All hotels restaurants cinema halls malls and other government and private establishments must strictly abide by the rules regarding attendance According to the guidelines all eligible citizens are required to complete their inoculation by taking both doses of COVID-19 vaccine Only those who are fully vaccinated will be allowed at public places including public transport Full vaccination is mandatory for all employees functioning at public places or establishments as well as all attendees at events or functions Appropriate action will be taken against an establishment if the rule is found to be violated the guidelines mentioned PTI KK GK GK
