Mumbai Dec 17 PTI The Shiv Senas opposition to the proposed Jaitapur nuclear plant in Ratnagiri district is politically motivated as the project will increase Maharashtras revenue by Rs 21000 crore once it commences state BJP unit chief Chandrakant Patil said on Friday On Thursday Union Minister Jitendra Singh had told Parliament that the Centre had given in principle approval for the project site to set up six nuclear reactors of 1650 MW each It seems Senas opposition to Jaitapur nuclear power plant is politically motivated I dont see any policy stand there In fact Maharashtras annual revenue would increase by Rs 21000 crore once the project commences Patil told PTI As per my information it is a Rs 3 lakh crore project And once it is operational 50000 jobs will be created Why are political parties opposing it and denying job opportunities to locals he asked Maharashtra PWD minister and Congress leader Ashok Chavan on Friday said consent of the local people was important for setting up the nuclear plant In a statement Chavan said the local population is of the view that the project will adversely affect the environment as well as mango and cashew plantations The Congress which is part of the ruling MVA alliance in the state will stand by the local people Chavan added BJPs Patil also lashed out at the Uddhav Thackeray government for the distress caused to farmers due to lack of relief after cyclones in the last two years PTI ND MR BNM BNM BNM

Mumbai Dec 17 PTI A day after the Union government said that in-principle approval has been accorded to a site in Maharashtras Jaitapur for setting up six nuclear power reactors the NCP on Friday said the Centre cannot carry out any project forcibly without taking the local population into confidence Union Minister of State in the Department of Atomic Energy Jitendra Singh had said in a written reply to Rajya Sabha on Thursday that in-principle approval has been accorded to a site in Jaitapur for setting up six nuclear power reactors of 1650 MW each in technical cooperation with France Reacting to it NCP spokesman and Maharashtra minister Nawab Malik said that development and new projects are required but not without taking locals into confidence The Centre cannot bulldoze any project without taking the local people into confidence The Jaitapur project was brought by the UPA government but had to be held back because of the opposition from the local population he said The recent rollback of the three farm laws is an example of what happens when decisions are taken without consulting the stakeholders Malik added Shiv Sena leader and Lok Sabha member from Sindhudurg Vinayak Raut told reporters in Delhi that the governments reply in Parliament was technical I have seen this kind of reply at least half a dozen times in the last few years The local population is against the project which is hazardous and which will impact the entire Konkan coastline he said Raut said that Shiv Sena firmly stands with the locals opposing the project Why do you require nuclear energy in Konkan when the Centre is promoting solar energy Solar parks can be set up in Konkan he said Shiv Sena and NCP share power in Maharashtra with Congress PTI MR NP NP

New Delhi [India], December 17 (ANI): Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Science and Technology Dr. Jitendra Singh on Thursday said that the Government has accorded 'In-Principle' approval of the site at Jaitapur in Maharashtra for setting up six nuclear power reactors of 1650 MW each in technical cooperation with France which would make it the largest nuclear power generating site with a total capacity of 9900 MW.
