Dals Char Chinar gets its glory back with tree transplant

Srinagar Feb 27 PTI The iconic Char Chinar four Chinars Island in the middle of the Dal Lake in Srinagar has been restored with transplantation of two grown up trees The Char Chinar is 4 again - in the first of its kind transplanting operation of a large Chinar tree in Kashmir JK Forest Department successfully transplanted two tall Chinars at the famous Char Chinar to restore the glory of island on Dal Lake in Srinagar Mohammad Zahid Wani an official of the Forest Department tweeted Char Chinar draws its name from four trees it has -- one in each corner Two of these trees had died over the time and had been replaced by saplings but the experiment did not work then This is for the first time the authorities have attempted to transplant a fully grown plant anywhere in the valley I hope this experiment will be successful in rejuvenating the pristine aesthetic look of this historic location Heartiest congratulations to team R S Jamwal a forest lover said The island also known as Roppae Lank in Kashmiri is believed to have been constructed by Murad Baksh brother of Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb PTI MIJ VN VN

Armys northern command chief visits his first commanding officer

Jammu Jan 24 PTI The Armys northern command chief Lt Gen Yogesh Kumar Joshi on Monday paid a visit to his first commanding officer Colonel retired K S Jamwal at his residence here a defence spokesman said Colonel retired Jamwal groomed Lt Gen Joshi during the formative years of his military career the spokesman said in a statement Lt Gen Joshi General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Armys northern command believes that the first few years of unit life have been the most valuable part of his foundation as an Army officer and he credits Col Jamwal for grooming and shaping him for future challenges and enriching contributions Expressing gratitude to Col retired Jamwal he said Youre an incredible trainer and Im grateful for your guidance encouragement and constant motivation which pushed me to immense heights I never imagined Thank you for inspiring me to be excellent in everything I do Col retired Jamwal said Joshi was commissioned in 13 JAK RIF as 2nd Lieutenant and joined in Nagaland when I was commanding the unit Right from his early service days he exhibited the winning streak and was always in the forefront with a sound professional approach PTI TAS AB SMN SMN

BSF band to perform at War Memorial in Jammu on Sunday

BSF seizes 10 kg heroin near International Border in Jammu

Jammu Aug 30 PTI The Border Security Force BSF Monday seized 10 kg heroin worth crores of rupees near the International Border in Akhnoor sector here a senior official saidThe Inspector General of BSF Jammu frontier N S Jamwal said the forces conduct operations based on regular tip-offs and the seizure was result of such efforts Troops were on vigil round the clock and this seizure is the result of their efforts he saidThe consignment was found hidden in Sarkanda bushes near the zero line by a search party Deputy Inspector General of BSF S P S Sandhu saidSandhu who is also Public Relations Officer for the BSF Jammu frontier said the recovery was made around 1 pm when a BSF party found a suspicious black colour rucksack bag hidden in the wild grassThebag was opened and 10 packets each weighing one kilogram of heroin was found inside the officer said terming the recovery a major success and the result of the relentless efforts of robust border dominationHe said the BSF Director General has lauded the efforts of the troops PTI TAS AB TIR TIR
