PWD to make operational 750-metre-long underpass at Ashram by March

New Delhi Feb 22 PTI In a relief to commuters passing through the busy Ashram crossing in south Delhi the Public Works Department is likely to make operational a 750-metre-long underpass there by the second week of March sources saidAccording to officials of the Public Works Department PWD over 95 per cent work of the underpass has been completed and the work pertaining to covering of ramps is being carried out which is likely to be completed by the end of this monthThe facility is likely to be opened in the second week or latest by third week of March PWD sources saidThe officials however said a trial run of traffic in the underpass is likely to be carried out in the first week of MarchThe Ashram Chowk is an important link between central and south Delhi and also with Faridabad The junction connects Mathura Road and the Ring Road linking Lajpat Nagar-Sarai Kale Khan and DND FlyoverThe traffic police data shows that around 25 to 3 lakh vehicles cross the Ashram intersection every day during peak traffic hoursTo ease the traffic logjam here a 750-metre-long underpass is being built on Mathura Road between Nizamuddin Rail Bridge and CSIR Apartments at Ashram crossingOnce the project is completed it will benefit commuters passing through the busy Ashram crossing and ease the traffic towards Sarita Vihar Badarpur and Faridabad from ITO and vice versaOfficials said the pace of construction work had slowed down in January due to rains which delayed the projectThe project had also earlier got delayed due to ban on construction activities in November-December last and previously owing to COVID-19 restrictionsThe foundation stone of the project was laid by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on December 24 2019 The estimated cost of the project is Rs 78 croreThe projects initial deadline was December 2020 which was extended to March 2021 and further pushed to June 30 and then to September that yearIt was again shifted to November last and then to December The latest deadline of the project is March 2022 officials saidPTI AKM SRY

New Delhi Feb 18 PTI Delhi governments transport department has provided learning licences to over 93 percent of the 154 lakh applicants in the past six months under its faceless services officials said on FridayDelhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal launched the faceless services of the Transport department related to driving licences and different kinds of permits and certificates on August 11 2021The e-learning licence under which applicants can take the driving test online and receive the document at a given address was started on August 7 last yearAccording to official figures from August till mid February 2022 a total 154618 applications were received for e-learning licence The number of applicants who passed the test was 145124The number of pending applications for learning licence test was 3410 Those who failed the test numbered 6084 including 1157 due to colour blindness the figures showedUnder the faceless services for various other transport related documents over 85 percent applications have been approved so far it showedSince the launch of the scheme over eight lakh applications were received by the department Transport department officials saidThe department communicates to people whose applications are not accepted due to various reasons including incomplete details or certain other technicalities they saidWith the Transport department services related to driving licence registration certificate permits and termination of hypothecation available online in a faceless manner the government has closed down four motor licensing office MLOs including IP Estate Vasant Vihar Sarai Kale Khan and JanakpuriThe Faceless Services envision providing contactless queue-less hassle-free services to the applicants applying online and getting work done without visiting any transport department officePeople can avail a faceless service by logging on httptransportdelhigovin and apply for required document The process is Aadhaar-authenticated and fees can also be paid onlineThe applied for document is dispatched to the applicants through speed post They can also download it through a link sent to them through an SMS on their registered mobile number PTI VIT TDS TDS

New Delhi Oct 25 PTI Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot on Monday inaugurated a seven-day E-Auto Mela where prospective buyers can test-drive all the available vehicle models and explore the financing options an official statement said The mela organised by the Delhi government commenced at two locations here - Institute of Driving Training and Research IDTR Sarai Kale Khan and Loni It will continue till October 31 from 9 am to 4 pm daily The visiting prospective auto drivers will be able to see and test-drive all the available models of e-autos and explore the loan options available E-auto manufacturers Mahindra Piaggio ETO Motors and Saarthi as well as financiers like Mahindra Finance Bajaj Fincorp Convergence Energy Services Limited CESL are participating in the mela the statement said The experts at the mela will also guide the applicants on how to register for the e-autos and will brief them about the various environmental benefits battery and charging various maintenance subsidies interest relief it added Switching to non-polluting electric vehicles has been of highest priority to the government and to ensure Delhi is eased into this huge but crucial shift we have also simplified the process of application and other formalities as much as possible With over 1400 autos reserved for women this would be one of the biggest steps any city has taken in the direction of increasing the presence of women in public transport and overall womens safety Gahlot said at the eventHe also interacted with female auto drivers during the eventThe Transport Department has already invited online applications for the registration of 4261 e-autosThe Delhi Government has especially reserved 33 per cent of the total registration -- 1406 e-autos for women applicants The e-autos will be blue in colour in line with the electric buses soon to be inducted into the DTC fleet However the e-autos registered by a woman would be pink in colour The department has already received 6352 applications as of October 25 PTI SLB BAL BAL
