Woman killed her mother injured after speeding car hits them in north Delhi

New Delhi Feb 21 PTI A 23-year-old woman was killed and her mother injured when a speeding car allegedly hit them in north Delhis Wazirabad on Monday police said The driver of the car was in an inebriated state at the time of the incident they said adding he was arrested and his vehicle seized The deceased identified as Payal used to work at a clinic police said Her husband Rohit works as a sevadar performing voluntary service at a temple in South Delhis Chattarpur and the woman lived there with him Payal along with her mother Urmila and husband had gone to attend a cousins wedding on Sunday After attending the marriage they planned to return home the next day a police officer said On Monday afternoon when Payal her mother and husband were waiting for an autorickshaw near Kali Ghat in Wazirabad suddenly a speeding came and hit them he said Payal along with her mother was shifted to a nearby hospital where she was declared brought dead the police officer said adding her mother is under treatment Payals husband escaped unhurt Deputy Commissioner of Police North Sagar Singh Kalsi said the accused driver was caught on the spot His medical examination was conducted which showed that he was under the influence of alcohol while driving Kalsi said We have registered a case at Wazirabad police station and the accused has been arrested in connection with the accident The vehicle has also been taken in custody he said The driver has been identified as Jitender a resident of Jagatpur village police said After the incident several locals gathered at the spot which disrupted the traffic they said The area was cleared in about half an hour and the locals were pacified they added PTI AMP AQS AQS

New Delhi Dec 23 PTI A 54-year-old man was arrested for allegedly stealing luggage bags of senior citizens at the Kashmere Gate ISBT and railway stations on the pretext of helping them police said on ThursdayIdentified as Suraj Parkash of Shalimar Garden in Gaziabad the man used to run a medical store that faced losses and he started committing crimes they saidA 56-year-old woman from Hisar in Haryana lodged a complaint on October 18 at the Kashmere Gate police station stating that after she arrived at the ISBT the accused offered to help her with her bags and then disappeared with everythingThe bag the man stole had some clothes a mobile phone some jewellery and documents the police saidDuring investigation police checked CCTV footage and spotted one suspicious individual following the complainant a senior police officer saidThereafter more footage was analysed to ascertain the suspect and it was found that he committed similar thefts earlier also he saidThe accused was apprehended on Tuesday when he was roaming around ISBT Thereafter a raid was conducted and 51 bags and 26 stolen mobile phones were recovered from his home Deputy Commissioner of Police north Sagar Singh Kalsi saidDuring interrogation it was disclosed that the accused is a BSc graduate from Meerut University Earlier he used to run a medical store on rent but had some loss in business and started committing crime around two years ago the DCP saidHe was involved in around 150 thefts near ISBTs and railway stations He also claimed that he has never been arrested earlier police saidParkash used to target senior citizens especially women who were alone and in need of some help Kalsi saidNine cases of thefts registered at the Kashmere Gate police station have been solved the police added PTI NIT IJT

New Delhi Oct 21 PTI A 34-year-old man was arrested for allegedly staging a robbery along with his cousin brother to steal Rs 5 lakh from his employer in Delhis Wazirabad area police said on ThursdayThe accused have been identified as Deepak a resident of Haidarpur and his cousin brother Aslam 39 a resident of Trilokpuri They were planning to start a business with the stolen money they saidOn Monday Wazirabad police station received information about a robbery in the area The complainant Deepak alleged that he was robbed of Rs 5 lakh cash that he had collected on the instruction of his employer Rajeev Bansal and his mobile phone by two motorcycle-borne men the police saidDeepak claimed that the incident took place around 615 pm when he was going to Seelampur from Rohinis Sector-3 via Ring Road to deliver the money As he crossed the Burari flyover the men on the motorcycle threw red chilli powder in his eyes and fled with the cash and his mobile phone after he stopped his scooter a senior police officer saidHowever the red chilli powder was found neither at the crime scene nor on Deepaks clothes He also changed his statement frequently and there were several discrepancies in his account of events the officer said adding that Bansal was also called to the spotDuring interrogation Deepak revealed that he wanted to start a water plant and hence hatched a plan with Aslam to stage the robbery to steal the money from his employer Deputy Commissioner of Police north Sagar Singh Kalsi saidHe called Aslam under the Burari flyover and handed over the cash and his mobile phone to him Thereafter he called the police using the mobile phone of a passerby claiming that he had been robbed the DCP saidA case was registered raids were conducted and co-accused Aslam was arrested Deepaks mobile phone and cash worth Rs 492000 were recovered from his possession Kalsi saidDeepak who had been working for Bansal for the last five to six years was earlier involved in two cases of criminal breach of trust and theft Bansal had not got Deepaks police verification done the police said PTI NIT NIT DIV DIV
