Thane Feb 20 PTI A naval museum will be set up near the Durgadi Fort in Kalyan town of Maharashtras Thane district with an aim to attract tourists officials said on Sunday It will be the states first naval museum a spokesperson of the Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation KDMC claimed in a release The museum will in the shape of a ship and will showcase the naval history from the period of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and development thereafter the civic body said The foundation for the mega project under the Smart City development programme was laid by state Tourism and Environment Minister Aaditya Thackeray during a function on Thursday According to the release the KDMC also plans to develop the Ulhas river front from the Durgadi Fort to Gandhari village for recreational activities and the project is scheduled to be completed within three years The project includes development of a jogging track cycle track walkwaypathway and a promenade it added PTI COR GK GK

Thane Jan 28 PTI Police have registered a case against five former municipal commissioners of the Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation KDMC in Maharashtras Thane district along with 13 others for allegedly allowing development of a property in contravention of rules an official said on Friday The case was filed at Bazarpeth police station in Kalyan division late night on Thursday based on the directions given on January 18 by a local court he said The court in Kalyan had said that prima facie a case is made out against the 18 persons on a complaint lodged by a former independent corporator of the KDMC - Arun Geeth The order was passed by the judicial magistrate first class JMFC Sonali Sashikant Raul In his complaint submitted to the court the former corporator alleged that the civic officials and the town planners of the KDMC and other staff had connived with the developer and allowed the development of the property in contravention of rules starting January 2004 The property developer was made undue favour in granting the floor space index FSI and he indulged in several irregularities The construction of the 23-storey high-rise is completely against the regulations the complaint said Geeth alleged that he had approached the local police with the complaint but they did not give any heed and hence he had to knock on the courts doors The case was registered against developer Harakchand Jain architect Anil Nirgude five former KDMC municipal commissioners - Govind Rathod Ramnath Sonawane S S Bhise E Ravinderan and Govind Bodke - and 11 other civic employees the official at Bazarpeth police station said The 18 accused have been booked under IPC sections 420 418 415 all related to cheating 460 house-trespass or house-breaking 448 house trespass 120B criminal conspiracy and under the Prevention of Corruption Act he said adding that nobody was arrested in this connection so far PTI COR NP NP

Thane Nov 21 PTI An employee of a crematorium run by the Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation KDMC in Maharashtras Thane district suffered severe burn injuries while lighting the burner of a cremation furnace sources said on Sunday The incident occurred at the crematorium in Patharli late Saturday night they said The employee Gopal Adsul was lighting the burner of the furnace when its flames suddenly flared up in which he received severe burn injuries on his face He was first rushed to the local civic-run hospital and later shifted a medical facility in Mumbai the sources said Another operator at the crematorium said the incident was a fallout of some technical snag in the furnace PTI COR NP NP

Thane Oct 23 PTI A family had to perform the last rites of its deceased member in candle light at a crematorium in Kalyan of Maharashtras Thane district as disruption in power supply resulted in darkness at the facility one of the relatives said on Saturday The cremation was conducted at Vitthalwadi crematorium on Thursday night he said An elderly woman member of the family died at Khadegolawali in Kalyan east late evening on Thursday Her family members took her body to the crematorium But they were shocked to find that there was complete darkness as the lights were not working there due to lack of power supply he added Since the family members did not want the last rites to get delayed they purchased some candles and completed the cremation in that light the relative added Rahul Katkar a social worker from the locality brought this incident to the notice of the Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation KDMC officials and demanded that corrective steps be taken such incidents dont recur in future and the family members of the deceased dont have to suffer Civic officials were not available for comment PTI COR NP NP
