New Delhi Apr 18 PTI Various auto-rickshaw cab and taxi unions in the capital went on a strike on Monday demanding a CNG subsidy and a fare revision in the wake of rising fuel pricesThe strike led to a shortage of cabs and autos across Delhi-NCRCommuters in the city faced difficulties in getting cabs and autos on Monday morning Though cars were available on Ola and Uber apps the fares were inflated Everyday I take a cab to my office near Central Secretariat and it charges me around Rs 400 on one way trip But today due to the strike less cabs were available and fares have shot up much I had to pay over Rs 650 to reach my office from Noida a commuter Diljeet Singh told PTIAuto and cab drivers unions have been demanding a hike in fares and slashing of CNG prices to offset the impact of rising fuel prices They refused to call their strike off despite an announcement by the Delhi government to form a committee to consider a fare revision in a time-bound mannerOur strike has started and it will continue throughout the day CNG has become costlier and we cannot keep running our business on losses We should either be provided a subsidy of Rs 35 per kg on CNG or fares should be hiked Delhi Auto Rickshaw Sangh General Secretary Rajendra Soni told PTI The auto taxi and cab drivers also sat on a dharna near Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwals residence in Civil Lines later in the day to press their demandsSmall protests were also witnessed at number of places including Kashmere Gate ISBT Rani Bagh Civil Lines New Delhi Railway Station auto stand While most unions said they will be on a one-day strike the Sarvodaya Driver Association Delhi which has members who drive for cab aggregators said it will be an indefinite strikeWe are giving two days ultimatum to the governments Centre and state to consider our demands else our symbolic strike will turn into an indefinite strike We dont want to do this but we have no other option left Ravi Rathore of Sarvodaya Driver Association Delhi saidPeople took to social media to report about cab and auto drivers strikeThere were reports claiming that cabs entering Delhi from Noida and Ghaziabad were being stopped at border points and were being asked not to ply adding to the woes of the commutersHowever cab and auto driver associations said they were not stopping the cabs and merely informing fellow drivers about the strikeThe strike was planned on a short notice so many of cab and auto drivers from NCR town were not aware of it Hence they were told about the strike at Delhi borders and were requested to participate in it after completing their trips Rathore saidThere are over 90000 autos and more than 80000 registered taxis complementing the public transport system in the city PTI AKM TDS TDS
New Delhi Feb 25 PTI Delhi Metro operations on a section of the busy Yellow Line will not be available in the initial few hours on Sunday due to a planned maintenance work on the segment officials said The affected section will be between Rajiv Chowk and Kashmere Gate metro stations due to maintenance workat Rajiv Chowk station To undertake the scheduled track maintenance work at Rajiv Chowk metro station of Yellow Line train services on the morning of Sunday on this corridor will be briefly regulated officials said today Train services will be suspended between Kashmere Gate and Rajiv Chowk stations from the start of services till 630 AM Hence three metro stations namely Chandni Chowk Chawri Bazar and New Delhi will be closed till resumption of train services in the section ie up to 630 AM they said Yellow Line connects Samyapur Badli in Delhi to HUDA City Centre in GurgaonMetro services will be available between Rajiv Chowk and Kashmere Gate via the Violet Line Passengers can change trains at Central Secretariat and Mandi House and reach Kashmere Gate via Violet Line the DMRC said In the rest of the sections of Yellow Line ie from Samaypur Badli to Kashmere Gate and Rajiv Chowk to HUDA City Centre train services will continue to remain available as per routine Sunday time table during this period officials said PTI KND RCJ RCJ
New Delhi Dec 24 PTI Delhi Metro on Friday entered into the 20th year of its operations and marked the occasion by commencing a field trial of a first-ever indigenously developed signalling technology and unveiling an exhibition on its journey at Kashmere Gate stationThe field trial of the first-ever indigenously developed i-ATS technology Indigenous Automatic Train Supervision for Delhi Metros Red Line Rithala-New Bus Stand Shaheed Sthal was inaugurated by Durga Shanker Mishra secretary in the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and Chairman DMRC via video conferencing officials saidOn the occasion of the Delhi Metro operations entering into its 20th year Mishra also inaugurated an exhibition themed Tracing Delhi Metros Journey hosted at the Kashmere Gate metro station they saidDelhiMetrohad begun its commercial operations on December 25 2002 a day after then prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee had inaugurated DMRCsfirststretch spanning 82 kilometre from Shahdara to Tis Hazari with just six stationsThe location from where the then prime minister had inaugurated the first-ever metro corridor in the national capital has been redeveloped into a full-fledged exhibition with priceless photographs and anecdotes which shall take the visitors on a ride down memory lane of that historic day which ignited a new revolution in Indias mass transit history the DMRC said in a statementThis shall be a permanent exhibition and passengers using Delhi Metro networks largest interchange facility shall be able to visit this exhibition without any additional cost officials saidMangu Singh Managing Director DMRC Anandi Ramalingam CMD Bharat Electronics Limited BEL and other senior officials were also present during the eventThe i-ATS technology has been jointly developed by DMRC and BEL and is now being implemented on the Red Line With this achievement India will become one of the few countries in the world to have its own ATS product which can be implemented in other metros as well as railway systems the statement saidThe development of the i-ATS system is a major step towards the development of an indigenously built CBTC Communication Based Train Control based signalling technology for Metro railway since the i-ATS is an important sub system of the CBTC Signalling system it saidATS is a computer-based system which manages train operations This system is indispensable for high density operations such as the metro where services are scheduled every few minutes i-ATS is the indigenously developed technology which will now significantly reduce the dependence of Indian metros on foreign vendors dealing with such technologies the statement saidTechnology systems such as the CBTC are primarily controlled by European countries and Japan As part of the Make in India initiative of the Government of India the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs had decided to indigenise the CBTC technologyAlong with DMRC Niti Aayog MoHUA Bharat Electronics Limited BEL RDSO and CDAC are part of this development To take the project forward DMRC and BEL had entered into an MoU last year A dedicated team of DMRC and BEL Ghaziabad worked together round the clock to take this important step towards AtmaNirbhar Bharat officials saidThe i-ATS system shall also be used in the upcoming Ph-IV corridors Predictive maintenance modules shall also be introduced in the Ph-IV corridors using the i-ATS system they said PTI KND RCJ RCJ
