Pune Mar 23 PTI The Pune civic body on Wednesday restored the water supply to the iconic Aga Khan Palace following an uproar over a month after the municipal corporation had disconnected the supply due to non-payment of dues worth over Rs 170 crore On February 5 the PMCs water supply department had disconnected the supply to the monument where Mahatma Gandhi was kept as a prisoner during the countrys freedom struggle due to non-payment of dues We have restored their Aga Khan Palaces connection today About the unpaid dues they have given us a letter stating that they will resolve the issue Vikram Kumar PMC commissioner said He added that the civic body provided two STP water tankers for watering the gardens at the Aga Khan Palace An official of the Archaeological Survey of India which manages the monument here in Maharashtra on Tuesday said that they had requested the PMC to provide a new water connection in the ASIs name so that visitors are not inconvenienced Gajanan Mandaware Archaeological Survey of Indias conservation assistant at the Palace on Wednesday confirmed that the PMC has restored the water connection and water supply resumed The garden spread across six acres is largely affected due to the water scarcity and upkeep of the garden was becoming difficult and visitors are also facing hardship he had said On weekdays the monument attracts 700 to 800 visitors and on weekends the number goes up to 1200 After the launch of the Quit India movement Mahatma Gandhi his wife Kasturba Gandhi and his secretary Mahadev Desai were kept in detention at the Aga Khan Palace which was built by Sultan Muhammed Shah Aga Khan III in 1892 Desai and Kasturba Gandhi died in detention and their samadhis are located on the premises of the Palace The Palace is one of the 17 heritage sites picked up for Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav an initiative of the Centre to commemorate 75 years of Indias independence PTI SPK NSK NSK

Ranchi Aug 31 PTI Two women and eight children hailing from Jharkhand have been rescued from human traffickers in Delhi following the intervvention by Chief Minister Hemant Soren the state government said in a statement on Tuesday All ten are being brought back to Jharkhand it said Two women and 8 children of Jharkhand victims of human trafficking have been freed in Delhi They are being brought to Jharkhand for rehabilitation They have been rescued with the help of Integrated Rehabilitation-cum-Resource Centre New Delhi Jharkhand Bhawan and Child Welfare Association a statement from the state government said It said Jharkhand Resident Commissioner Mastram Meena as per Sorens direction has been constantly keeping a vigil to find such hapless victims by visiting various childrens home and other places and in coordination with Delhi Police Child Welfare Committee New Delhi and Child Welfare Committee of border states The women and children were taken to Delhi by middlemen They were sold by touts for a hefty amount Some children who were victims of abuse had fled from the houses where they used to work and Delhi Police had sent them to the childrens home Some children were forcibly sent by their parents to human traffickers twice to Delhi where they were subjected to mental and physical abuse the statement said The children will be continuously monitored through the Village Child Protection Committee connecting them with the welfare schemes sponsorship foster care Kasturba Gandhi Residential Girls Schools run in the district the statement said PTI NAM KK KK KK
