Jammu Mar 30 PTI Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday dedicated six power infrastructure projects to the public here These projects will add another 660 MVA capacity to the existing power systems in the Jammu region and include new 400 MVA 220132 KV Power Transformer at Gladni Grid Station besides new 50 MVA 13233 KV power transformers each at Gladni Canal Bari Brahmana-I Jaurian and Akhnoor grid stations an official statement said Speaking on the occasion the Lt Governor said the Gladni grid station has seen long-due capacity augmentation of 400 MVA after almost 14 years In addition to the installation of 400 MVA power transformer at 220 KV level as a major relief to inhabitants of Jammu city the department has created additional capacity by way of installation of 50 MVA power transformer at 132 KV level at the same grid station which will particularly cater to the increased summer demand mainly of domestic and commercial installations of Jammu he added Sinha said the new projects will benefit more than six lakh population of Jammu The addition of three new power transformers of 50 MVA capacity each Jaurian Akhnoor and Canal shall ensure sufficient and reliable power supply in the rural border areas of Jammu Region he added The Lt Governor said the inauguration of a string of power projects in the last three months in both Jammu and Kashmir divisions is a testimony to the UT administrations commitment to improve the quality of life of 125 people of J-K PTI AB AB AQS AQS

New Delhi Mar 28 PTI Kendriya Vidyalayas KVs are not a solution to the problems in the education sector and state governments must take initiatives for improving schools in all states Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said in the Lok Sabha on Monday Pradhan also appealed to MPs to take initiative for proper utilisation of Rs 3500 crore given by the central government in the last budget for upgradation of schools run by state governments across the countryCentral schools are not the only solutionthe state governments have to find out ways he said during the Question Hour in response to demands from many MPs to open KVs in their respective constituenciesThe minister said opening of new KVs is a continuous process and they are opened primarily to cater to the educational needs of wards of transferable central government employees including defence and paramilitary personnel central autonomous bodies central public sector undertakings PSUs and central institute of higher learning IHL by providing a common programme of education throughout the countryProposals for opening of new KVs are considered only if sponsored by ministries or departments of the government of India state governments union territories UTs administrations and committing resources for setting up a new KV he saidPradhan said the proposals received from various sponsoring authorities found fulfilling the mandatory pre-requisites for opening of new KVs have to compete with other such proposals under the Challenge Method and subject to approval of the competent authorityHe said construction of permanent buildings for KVs is a continuous process which depends upon identification of suitable land completion of lease formalities in favour of KVS by sponsoring authorities submission of drawings and estimates by construction agency availability of funds and requisite approvals etc PTI ACB ACB DV DV DV

Pune Mar 23 PTI Some areas in Pimpri Chinchwad city near Pune in Maharashtra experienced a power outage for hours on Wednesday after a cat climbed on transmission equipment causing a technical fault officials from the state power utility said adding that 60000 consumers were inconvenienced The power outage occurred in Bhosari Akurdi and surrounding areas in Pimpri Chinchwad at 6 AM The power supply resumed at around 2 PM A cat entered into a 22 KV yard of a transformer in Bhosari on Wednesday morning following which areas like Bhosari Akurdi and surrounding localities experienced the power outage an MSEDCL official said An MSEDCL release said that the cat climbed on power equipment which caused a technical fault The cat however died The power outage affected at least 60000 consumers The official said that the power supply was restored due to the efforts of officials using alternative power sub-stationsPTI SPK NSK NSK

Srinagar Feb 24 PTI The Jammu and Kashmir administration has set a target to harness the regions hydropower potential to make the Union territory power surplus in next five years In order to achieve this target the administration has taken several path breaking reforms in the power sector which will change the dynamics of the power sector here an official spokesman said here He added that among the priorities in this regard was tapping the 20000-megawatt MW power potential of the region In the past 70 years only 3500 MW out of the potential of 20000 MW had been harnessed in Jammu and Kashmir the spokesman said Once the entire potential is exploited JK will have surplus power and can be an energy exporter However in the past two years alone the projects for about 3000 MW capacity projects have been revived and subsequently put on track for operationalisation he said The spokesman said key reforms were undertaken in the power sector during 2020 The JK government had constituted a four-member task force on power sector reforms for implementation of initiatives schemes and relief measures under the Atma Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyan The initiatives included Rs 90000-crore liquidity infusion to distribution companies as a concessional loan offering by Power Finance Corporation PFC and REC Ltd tariff policy reforms encompassing consumer rights promotion of industry and sustainability of power sector and distribution reforms in the power sector he added Reforms in the power sector were rolled out in the UT in 2019 with the formation of separate transmission and distribution corporations for Kashmir and Jammu divisions he said The administration has planned new projects of 3300 MW which include four projects of Kirthai II 930 MW Sawlakote 1856 MW Duhasti stage II 258 MW and Uri-I stage II 240 MW to be executed soon Also back in January 2021 in a historic moment for energy sufficiency in Jammu and Kashmir memorandums of understanding MoUs were signed for implementation of much-awaited mega hydro power projects including 850 MW Ratle HEP and 930 MW Kirthai-II HEP he said On that occasion Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said the vision of the government was to harness hydro energy resources of JK with a goal to double the energy generation by 2024 and also to prepare a strategy for efficiency through policies monitoring mechanisms to ensure energy security for economic and social benefits On the transmission front the spokesman said Rs 7500 crore are being invested on system strengthening projects which include 1000 MVA transformation capacity already added at 220 KV level creation argumentation of six 220132 KV grid stations and 875 MVA transformation capacity added at 132 KV level He said Jammu and Kashmir has achieved 100 per cent household electrification under SAUBHAGYA before the target date Over 357400 beneficiaries were covered under the scheme Under Smart Prepaid Metering project 40 per cent of energy consumed will be metered via smart metres by March 2022 during which two lakh metres will be installed while eight lakh metres will be installed by March 2023 across the UT he added PTI MIJ HRS hrs
