Thane Feb 18 PTI The police have arrested the husband of a Nepali singer for allegedly duping a woman of Rs 85 lakh in Ambernath town of Maharashtras Thane district an official said on Friday The police have apprehended Arvind Kumar the husband of Nepali singer Rabina Badi while a hunt has been launched for her senior inspector Madhukar Bhoge of Shivaji Nagar police station in Ambernath said An offence had been registered in August 2021 following a complaint of cheating lodged by a Nepali woman living in Ambernath he said The accused couple had allegedly cheated the victim Kalpana Magar of Rs 85 lakh by wooing her to sell her kidney to meet her financial needs the official said Magar whose husband is a security guard supports her family by working as a house help in the locality The victim had attended a programme of the accused singer in Nepal in 2019 and in 2020 she befriended her on Facebook he said When the victim informed the accused about her financial condition the latter offered to help her out and asked her to sell her kidney Badi also claimed that she had sold her kidney and received Rs 4 crore for it he said According to the police the accused asked the victim to deposit Rs 10 lakh first and then claimed that she will have to travel to a foreign country where her kidney will be removed and she would get Rs 4 crore The victim transferred Rs 850 lakh between May and December 2020 following which she realised that she had been cheated when the accused started giving her evasive replies about the process the official said Based on the complaint lodged by the woman at Ambernath police station the police recently nabbed the singers husband and further probe is underway to find out if more people are involved in the racket PTI COR ARU ARU
New Delhi Oct 24 PTI The Indian Navys first training squadron comprising six ships is on a four-day visit to Sri Lanka starting Sunday to expose young officers and officer-trainees to the socio-political and maritime facets of different countries in the Indian Ocean region officials saidFive Indian Navy ships -- Sujata Magar Shardul Sudarshini and Tarangini -- and an Indian Coast Guard ship Vikram have reached Sri Lanka as a part of the overseas deployment of 100th and 101st integrated officers training course IOTC the Navy officials saidThis deployment will expose the young officers and officer-trainees to the socio-political and maritime facets of different countries in the Indian Ocean region they saidThese officers will get familiarised with ports and foster bridges of friendship with foreign nations the officials saidDuring this deployment Magar and Shardul along with trainees of the 101st IOTC will visit the Colombo harbour while Sujata Sudarshini Tarangini and Vikram will visit Trincomalee with the trainees of the 100th IOTC they notedVarious training activities are planned to be conducted between the navies of the two countries during the four days with the aim to enhance interoperability of the two forces the officials statedThe ships are part of the Southern Naval Command SNC which is the training command of the Indian Navy and is headed by Vice Admiral A K Chawla they saidThe Indian Navy has been imparting training to international trainees for more than four decades now and as on date a large number of officers and sailors from Sri Lanka are undergoing various ab-initio to advanced courses at the SNC the officials saidThe command has gained the reputation of being the finest training destination by maintaining focused approach to provide high quality training and by constant adaptation to evolving tactics and technologies they said PTI DSP ANB ANB
