Maha International Sports University applauds UGC move to recognise degrees

Mumbai Feb 26 PTI The International Sports University Maharashtra ISUM has welcomed the decision by the University Grants Commission UGC to include Bachelors and Masters in Sports Science and Sports Management as recognised degree options The International Sports University came up last year in Pune under the aegis of the Maharashtra government Maharashtra Sports Minister Sunil Kedar on Saturday hailed the UGC decision and said he looked forward to a quantum leap in building talent jobs and sports IP for the long term development of Indian sports industry through professional education We have had a singular vision to re-imagine and transform sports education in the country with the objective of creating skilled professionals well versed in the science and management of emerging sporting disciplines Kedar was quoted as saying in a media statement With the International Sports University our goal is to revolutionize sports education by incorporating different aspects of technology management sports governance to produce sports professionals of the future who can advance Indias prowess in sports he added Maharashtra Sports Commissioner Om Prakash Bakoria called it a momentous development for sports ecosystem in India adding that ISUM was one of the few universities in the country to offer future-ready courses in sports science and management Former India cricketer Nilesh Kulkarni who is a key consultant to the government in this project said with this notification the UGC has taken note of the work being done by the Maharashtra government in revitalizing sports education in India The approval for the degrees is the need of the hour if we want to make next-level progress across different domains of sports By setting up ISUM we aim to make rapid strides in developing carefully curated curriculum and building strategic collaborations across sectors to diversify sports learning Kulkarni said PTI NRB BNM BNM BNM

Mumbai Feb 25 PTI Maharashtra Sports Minister Sunil Kedar on Saturday said he is hopeful that crowds would be allowed for the IPL matches that are set to take place in Maharashtra starting from March 26The league matches of the upcoming edition of the cash-rich tournament will be held across four venues - iconic Wankhede stadium Cricket Club of India Brabourne stadium DY Patil Stadium and Maharashtra Cricket Association stadium at Gahunje in PuneI hope the way COVID-19 cases are reducing day by day we have a free atmosphere We hope that when IPL matches take place at that time the atmosphere will be such that all people will be permitted to visit the stadiums Kedar told reporters here at a press conferenceIt will be a boost to players and it will be a good opportunity where people can come together People have been sitting in homes for one-and-half to two years we can hope for that As many as 20 games each will be held at Wankhede and DY Patil while 15 each will be hosted at Brabourne and Gahunje StadiumIt is our good fortune that all the league matches will be held in Maharashtra in Pune and Mumbai Being the Sports Minister of the state I am thankful to the BCCI With regard to bubbles and restrictions and also how many people will be allowed to watch the games there all those things we will work that out as per the international rules said KedarEarlier in the day Kedars ministerial colleague and Maharashtra Minister Aaditya Thackeray had visited the Wankhede stadium to review the preparationsSpectators will be allowed as per guidelines set by the Maharashtra government and to start with it will be 40 percent said a source in the know of thingsIf the COVID situation remains under control and cases decline it might be full house at the business end PTI NRB ATK ATK
