Mumbai Apr 18 PTI The rupee declined 6 paise to close at 7625 provisional against the US dollar on Monday tracking the strength of the greenback overseas and elevated crude oil prices At the interbank foreign exchange market the rupee opened lower at 7641 against the American currency and finally settled for the day at 7625 down 6 paise over its previous close During the trading session the rupee witnessed an intra-day high of 7620 and a low of 7643 On Wednesday the rupee had dipped 4 paise to close at 7619 against the US dollar The forex market was closed on Thursday for Mahavir Jayanti and Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Jayanti and on Friday on account of Good Friday Meanwhile the dollar index which gauges the greenbacks strength against a basket of six currencies was trading 020 per cent higher at 10070 Global oil benchmark Brent crude futures fell 018 per cent to USD 11150 per barrel The 30-share BSE Sensex ended 117219 points or 201 per cent lower at 5716674 while the broader NSE Nifty fell 30200 points or 173 per cent to 1717365 Foreign institutional investors remained net sellers in the capital market on Wednesday as they offloaded shares worth Rs 206104 crore according to stock exchange data PTI DRR ABM ABM
Mumbai Apr 18 PTI Equity benchmark indices which resumed trading after a long holiday faced heavy drubbing on Monday with the Sensex plunging over 1186 points in early trade The key index was dragged down by heavyweights Infosys and HDFC Bank amid weak trend in Asian markets Stock markets were closed on Thursday for Mahavir Jayanti and Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Jayanti as well as on Friday on account of Good Friday The Sensex was trading 118618 points lower at 5715275 in early trade The Nifty tumbled 31495 points to 1716070 From the 30-share pack Infosys Tech Mahindra TCS HDFC HDFC Bank Wipro and HCL Technologies were among the major laggards in early trade In contrast NTPC Tata Steel MM Maruti and Power Grid were among the gainers Shares of Infosys tanked 895 per cent to Rs 159205 on the BSE despite the countrys second-largest software services firm last week reporting a 12 per cent year-on-year increase in consolidated net profit for the March quarter at Rs 5686 crore HDFC Bank declined 335 per cent to Rs 141575 even as the largest domestic private sector lender Bank on Saturday posted a 228 per cent jump in its standalone net profit at Rs 100552 crore for the quarter ended March 2022 In Asia markets were trading lower with Seoul Shanghai and Tokyo quoting in the red in mid-session deals Stocks in the US had ended lower on Thursday International oil benchmark Brent crude gained 101 per cent to USD 11283 per barrel On Wednesday the Sensex declined 23744 points or 041 per cent to settle at 5833893 The NSE Nifty dipped 5465 points or 031 per cent to finish at 1747565 Foreign institutional investors continued to offload shares worth Rs 206104 crore on Wednesday according to exchange data PTI SUM RAM
