New Delhi Jan 18 PTI Over 50 lakh healthcare frontline workers and citizens aged 60 years and above have been administered the precaution dose of COVID-19 vaccine since January 10 Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said on Tuesday With the administration of nearly 80 lakh vaccine doses in a span of 24 hours the cumulative COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in the country has exceeded 15804 crore as per provisional reports till 7 amAnother Day Another Milestone Over 50 lakh healthcare frontline workers and citizens aged 60 years or above have received precaution Dose since 10th January I request all those who are eligible to get their precaution dose at the earliest Mandaviya tweeted India began administering precaution dose of COVID-19 vaccine to healthcare workers frontline workers including personnel deployed for election duty and those aged 60 and above with comorbidities from January 10 amid the country witnessing a spike in coronavirus infections fuelled by Omicron variant of the virus Hoever the countrywidevaccinationdrive was rolled out on January 16 2021 with healthcare workers HCWs getting inoculated in the first phase The vaccinationof frontline workers FLWs started from February 2 The next phase of COVID-19vaccinationcommenced from March 1 for people over 60 years of age and those aged 45 and above with specified co-morbid conditions The country launchedvaccinationfor all people aged more than 45 years from April 1 2021 The government then decided to expand itsvaccinationdrive by allowing everyone above 18 to bevaccinatedfrom May 1 The next phase of COVID-19 vaccination has commenced from January 3 this year foradolescents in the age group of 15-18 yearsPTI PLB RCJ RCJ

New Delhi Sep 28 PTI Both India and the US are global partners and need to work collaboratively in reforming the global health architecture whose fault lines have become amply visible during the current pandemic Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said on Tuesday Addressing the closing session of fourth Indo-US Health Dialogue being hosted by India he said equally important areas wherein both India and the US can work relate to managing health emergencies supporting digital health and innovation mental health interventions research coupled with production related to diagnostics therapeutics and vaccines considering India offering its low-cost research network and huge production capacities This has implications on access and affordability of medicines not only for the US -- India but also for the whole world Both India and the US are global partners and we also need to work collaboratively in reforming the global health architecture whose fault lines have become amply visible during the current pandemic Mandaviya said It is worth mentioning that Indian generic drugs have helped in bringing down the cost of treatment of various diseases globally the minister said India supplies nearly all the developing worlds high-quality generic medicines We are also the largest manufacturer of anti-TB drugs Leveraging on this capability we can supply affordable high-quality medication for patients the world over I also note with satisfaction the increased convergence between the regulators of both countries and look forward for further tangible outputs and combined working on this issue at global fora also he said Mandaviya said India values its engagement with the US on various fronts The US being the oldest modern democratic country and India being the largest democratic country in the modern world constructive and positive cooperation between both the countries can lead to peace harmony and growth not only for both sides but world at large he said The recently concluded visit of our Prime Minister to the US for deliberations Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership and exchanging views on regional and global issues of mutual interest particularly in the area of science and technology is another milestone towards strengthening of our bilateral ties he said Underlining that the outcome of this visit shall benefit the ongoing collaborations in health sector too Mandaviya said India and the US are also actively engaged with other Indo-Pacific countries on COVID-19 response vaccine development sharing of best practice supply chain management and revival of economies In addition the participation of Modi in the first in-person Quad Leaders Summit on September 24 for identifying new areas of cooperation will also solidify this partnership and reinforce the positive and constructive areas of cooperation that will benefit the Indo-Pacific region as a whole he said Funding clinical research fellowships for early and mid-career scientists within India and the US will surely contribute to building a strong sustainable healthcare system with skilled healthcare professionals As the Health Dialogue ended the minister hoped both sides take back the rich learning experience and reaffirm the commitment to the bilateral cooperation The two-day dialogue leveraged as a platform to deliberate upon multiple ongoing collaborations in the health sector between the two countries The issues related to areas of concern pertaining to strengthening of epidemiological research and surveillance vaccine development one health zoonotic and vector-borne diseases health systems and health policies etc were discussed during the two day dialogue a health ministry statement said Two MoUs were also signed at the concluding session one between the Ministry of Health India and Department of Health and Human Services of the US concerning cooperation in the field of Health and Biomedical sciences and the other between Indian Council of Medical Research ICMR and National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases NIAID for cooperation on International Centre for Excellence in Research ICER PTI PLB ZMN ZMN

New Delhi Sep 20 PTI India will resume export of surplus COVID-19 vaccines in the fourth quarter of 2021 under the Vaccine Maitri programme and to meet its commitment to the COVAX global pool but vaccinating its own citizens remains the topmost priority of the government Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said on Monday Addressing the media the minister said the government will receive over 30 crore doses of COVID-19 vaccines in October and over 100 crore doses in the coming quarter from October-December The cumulative doses administered so far across the country has crossed 817 crore The government had stopped export of COVID-19 vaccines after the second wave of the pandemic hit the country in April this year Asserting that vaccination of our own citizens remains the governments topmost priority Mandaviya said India will be resuming export of COVID-19 vaccines under Vaccine Maitri in order to fulfil the commitment of India towards COVAX in line with our motto of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam The surplus supply of vaccines will be used to fulfil Indias commitment towards the world for the collective fight against COVID-19 he said COVAX is co-led by Gavi the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations CEPI and WHO Highlighting the importance of indigenous research and production of Covid vaccines in India Mandaviya said that it is due to the relentless efforts and guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi that India was simultaneously undertaking research and production of Covid vaccines in such a big way Indias vaccination drive has been a role model for the world and it is marching ahead with great speed he said Talking about the expected production and supply trends in the coming months he said that more than 30 crore doses will be produced in October and more than 100 crores in the coming quarter India on Friday administered a record number of over 250 crore COVID-19 vaccine doses on the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modis 71st birthday The daily COVID-19 vaccination in the country was over 1 crore on September 6 August 31 and August 27 India took 85 days to touch the 10-crore vaccination mark 45 more days to cross the 20-crore mark and 29 more days to reach the 30-crore mark according to the ministry The country took 24 days to reach 40 crore from 30 crore doses and then 20 more days to cross the 50-crore vaccination mark on August 6 it said It took 19 more days to go past the 60-crore mark and took only 13 days to reach 70 crore from 60 crore on September 7 It then took just 11 days to reach 80 crore from 70 crore According to official sources over 22 per cent of Indias eligible population have received both doses of COVID-19 vaccine and nearly 65 per cent have got at least one dose PTI PLB SMN SMN
