New Delhi Mar 31 PTI Delhi Metro chief Mangu Singh on Thursday bid an emotional farewell to the DMRC after an illustrious career of 25 years including the last decade as its managing directorOn the last day of his tenure on March 31 he said the Delhi Metro will always be in my heart and he was satisfied with his long journeySenior officials and many members of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation DMRC board of directors visited Singh at his office at the Metro Bhawan here and extended their best wishesBut this is not a traditional retirement I would say where one would sort of move away after completing ones service I will be in Delhi and in the age of technology with mobile phones and WhatsApp will be in touch with the people he told PTI in an interview on ThursdayA Bijnor native and a graduate in civil engineering from the University of Roorkee now IIT-Roorkee he bid adieu to his DMRC family and accepted greetings from his colleagues and his successor Vikas Kumar who will take charge as the new managing director on April 1Singh considered as the foremost tunnelling expert became part of the Indian Railways Services of Engineers IRSE in 1981He then joined the Indian Railways and worked in various capacities including as deputy chief engineer of the Kolkata Metro Railway from 1989 to 1996Asked how would he describe his journey at the DMRC he said My journey with a metro began much earlier than the DMRC I was associated with the Calcutta Metro from 89-96 so its been almost 33 years with metrosAnd nothing can be more satisfying than this career of several decades including 33 years in metros including 25 years in DMRC and then 10 years and three months as its MD God has been very kind in giving me such opportunities I have been able to create 310 km of network while being part of different metros and I dont think anybody had that sort of opportunity anywhere in the world he said with a sense of prideThis span of 310 km includes the network added in the DMRC and other metros while working in various capacities he said Singhs tenure as MD of DMRC had begun on January 1 2012 after his predecessor E Sreedharan handed over the charge to him on December 31 2011 His tenure was extended multiple timesDelhi Metro under Singhs leadership endeavoured to bounce back after being severely hit by the COVID-19 pandemic and ensuing lockdowns His journey had begun with the Delhi Metro back in 1997 when he started working in the capacity of a chief engineerchief project managerLater he rose to become executive director and then director works in the DMRC before taking the charge as its MD in 2012 officials said He has contributed greatly in the project implementation of metros in Delhi and Kolkata and has been responsible for bringing revolutionary changes in the execution of large metro engineering projects civil within tight deadlines and budget the DMRC had earlier saidAsked about DMRCs association with other metros in India under his leadership he said I am very fortunate to have been involved with almost all metro networks in the country whether a metro is operational or under construction or in initial stage of planning I had the opportunity to get involved everywhere It was a big opportunity in life and I am really very satisfied with this journey he saidOne project outside Delhi that he felt special about is the Line2A of Mumbai Metro which is slated to be inaugurated on Saturday That project I personally feel was very challenging in a city like Mumbai Why I am particular about that project is because in Mumbai they already have an MMRC Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation that they are executing But confidence and faith was shown in us and the then CM personally called me and said you Mangu Singh have to deliver a line in Mumbai he saidSo that is why I feel it is more fascinating and challenging and we have done that he said The DMRC networks current span is nearly 392 km with 286 stations including the Noida-Greater Noida Metro Corridor and Rapid Metro in Gurugram PTI KND RHL

New Delhi Mar 31 PTI Delhi Metro does not foresee any major delay or significant cost overrun as to the timelines of the phase 4 project and some of the sections of two of the three priority corridors are planned to be opened by March next year DMRC chief Mangu Singh said on ThursdayThe outgoing managing director of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation DMRC in an interview to PTI also said the final operationalisation of the entire fourth phase of the project may get stretched to March 2025 though the urban transporter is still working with the December 2024 completion timelineThe work on phase IV had begun in December 2019 with a groundbreaking ceremony but it was hit after the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020 in Delhi At present the DMRC is undertaking construction work on 652 km of three priority corridors spanning 45 stations under the project -- Janakpuri West-RK Ashram Marg 2892 km Majlis Park-Maujpur 1255 km which are extensions of the already operational Magenta Line and Pink Line and Tughalakabad-Aerocity 2362 km that is being built as Silver Line connecting the operational Violet Line and Airport Line from the respective endsAsked if the pandemic has incurred cost escalation or delay in project timelines of the fourth phase Singh said At this stage I dont foresee any major delay and no major cost overrun either The systems are in place things are moving quite ok and the time loss during the pandemic I am very hopeful we will catch up And maybe within a years time we will start opening the phase 4 sections one by one part by partSo small sections of both Line 7 Pink Line and Line 8 Magenta Line which are being built as part of phase 4 priority corridors would probably be operational in a years time from now or by March 2023 he addedThe Union Cabinet in March 2019 had approved three out of the six corridors of the Delhi Metros phase 4 which will further improve connectivity in the national capitalThe other three proposed corridors which have not yet been approved by the Union Cabinet are Rithala-Bawana-Narela Inderlok-Indraprastha and Lajpat Nagar-Saket G BlockAsked about the status of the remaining three corridors Singh said This is now in the latest stage and Cabinet approval is pending All other formalities are over So Cabinet nod can be sanctioned anytime now Singh had taken over as MD of DMRC on January 1 2012 after his predecessor E Sreedharan handed over the charge to him on December 31 2011Singhs tenure as the managing director of the mass rapid transit system had been extended multiple timesAsked about the financial health of the DMRC in the wake of the three Covid lockdowns which caused losses to the urban transporter he said We are coming back to normal The average daily ridership has crossed 43 lakh which is 70 per cent of the pre Covid figure he added A senior official said the pre-Covid ridership journeys or line utilisation was about 60 lakh DMRC uses the metric of journey or line utilisation which is calculated by the number of corridors passengers use to reach their destinations Asked about the role of technology in the future of DMRC the outgoing chief said All new lines will be with the latest technologies like the DTO Driverless Train Operations and older lines will be converted to modern signalling system as and when the renewal becomes due Therefore the technology will play a very important role for five-six years PTI KND RHL

New Delhi Nov 22 PTI The Delhi Metro on Monday launched the first prototype of an indigenous Rolling Stock Driver Training System RSDTS a major step towards the indigenisation of technologies involved in operating the network officials saidThe Delhi Metro Rail Corporation in association with the Bharat Electronics Limited BEL also demonstrated the functioning of a Super Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition SCADA system which is being developed as a monitoring system for equipment and assets to rationalise maintenance periodicity manpower requirement and spares management the DMRC saidUnion Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs secretary and DMRC chairman Durga Shanker Mishra launched the RSDTS and also witnessed a demonstration of the Super-SCADA system in the presence of DMRC MD Mangu Singh and other senior officials of the DMRC and the BEL the Delhi Metro said in a statementIn pursuance of the Government of Indias Make in India initiative the DMRC and the BEL had signed an MoU in September last year with the objective to develop the RSDTS that will be useful for training drivers of metro and railway trains This system will also be used for evaluating the driving skills of a working train operator which is done periodically for safety considerations it saidThis will be the first indigenously developed universal train driving simulator that can be suitably modified for any metro system or railways the Delhi Metro saidSo far this product was being imported by the DMRC from foreign original equipment manufacturers OEM at a high cost Also the designs available with the DMRC so far are suitable for use with a single type of rolling stock and signalling and line profiles envisaged at the design stage It is difficult and cost prohibitive to make any changes at a later date the officials saidThe RSDTS being developed indigenously allows the same core software to be utilised for creating different combinations of rolling stock signalling and line profiles by merely changing the input data files along with minor hardware changes in the driving desk if so required This will enhance the flexibility of the training system and result in major cost saving for the DMRC the statement saidThe training system will have far superior features than those available today It will be scalable to meet future requirements This product will have utility in other metros and railways Since the majority of metro organisations wish to outsource train driving activity easy availability of driving simulators will help create a large pool of skilled manpower that may even feed the global requirement it addedThe DMRC also has an ambitious plan to go digital for all its maintenance needs The work on the Super-SCADA system is an important step in this regard At present several stand-alone solutions are already available at the equipment and system levels the officials saidHowever the DMRC desires to integrate all of them through a digital platform This will result in high uptime of systems and low maintenance cost With this aim the DMRC had signed another MoU with the BEL in June this year for indigenous development of Super-SCADA the statement saidAt present three systems namely automatic fare collection AFC lifts and escalators and wheel monitoring system of rolling stock have been covered in Phase-1 of the development of the Super-SCADA officials saidAs part of this initiative a decision support system for various levels of management is being developed besides transition towards a predictive maintenance regime from the conventional periodic maintenance regime using artificial intelligence and machine learning the statement said PTI KND DIV DIV

Noida Oct 29 PTI A fleet of 25 electric rickshaws was launched for providing last-mile connectivity to commuters to and from the Noida Electronic City metro station here project officials said The initiative has been launched by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation DMRC in collaboration with ETO Motors an electric mobility solutions and services company and will eventually cover more metro stations on the DMRC network in the future they saidDMRC Managing Director Mangu Singh flagged off a fleet of 25 e-rickshaws called ETO from Noida Electronic City Metro station of Blue Line and said Along with providing metro rail connectivity to the people of Delhi and NCR we aim to address the last mile connectivity challenges faced by commuters by providing clean safe and shared services On the occasion he also inaugurated operations of a smart electric vehicle charging station and charged the last-mile connectivity hubs first vehicle according to a statement issued by ETO MotorsThese e-rickshaws will be plying from 6 am to 11 pm daily providing last-mile connectivity to nearby localities of Noida Electronic City Metro station the officials saidInitially 25 ETO rickshaws are being introduced into service from the station which will be increased to 100 by the end of next month covering more stations in Noida section of Blue Line which include Sector-62 Noida Sector-59 Noida Sector-61 Noida Sector-34 etc they saidThese GPS-enabled e-rickshaws are especially-designed having a covered cabin and full front windscreen to provide last-mile connectivity within an area of 4-5 km around metro stations the officials saidThe fares have been kept very nominal at a base price of Rs 10 for the first 2 km and Rs 5 for subsequent km and the commuters can also book vehicles through the ETO app and pay digitally for their rides they addedWe have not only created a comprehensive roadmap to establish a robust EV ecosystem by providing easy-to-operate vehicles but have also addressed the charging infrastructure challenges towards truly sustainable mobility ETO Motors MD and CEO N KRawal saidThe DMRC has partnered with a consortium of Ms ETO Pvt Ltd Operator and Ms GEM Vehicles Pvt Ltd Manufacturer under their brand name ETO to run these e-rickshaws from above stationsThe commuters can avail more information regarding this facility on the helpline number managed by ETO Motors at 18001030975 or visit etomotorscom PTI KIS KJ
