Pune Mar 30 PTI A woman from a village in Maharashtra showed exemplary grit and saved her husband from the clutches of a leopard while fighting valiantly with the feline Showing no sign of fear in such a situation Sanjana Pawade who is in her late 30s grabbed the leopards tail and pulled it back following which the carnivore lost its grip on the man and the latter got saved forest officials said on Wednesday while lauding the womans bravery The incident took place at Darodi village of Parner tehsil in Ahmednagar district on the intervening night of March 25 and 26 they said While her family members were fast asleep Sanjana sensed the presence of a leopard outside their house She woke up her husband Gorakh Dashrath Pawade who went out to check The leopard then suddenly jumped on the man and attack him forest guard Hari Athare told PTI While the leopard tried to catch hold of the mans back Sanjana rushed and grabbed the animals tail and tried to pull it back As she was trying to free her husband from the leopards clutches the victims father and their pet dog also arrived there Gorakhs father started hitting the leopard with sticks and granite tiles and the dog also attacked the leopard The leopard lost its grip on the man who then ran away from the animal Athare said Generally a leopard grabs a person or another animal by the neck But in this incident the victim also kept fighting and saved his neck from being caught by the feline the forest guard said The man suffered head and arm injuries He was taken to a hospital where he was provided treatment and later discharged he added Talking to reporters Sanjana said It was a horrific situation but when I saw the leopard attacking my husband I gathered my strength and courage I grabbed the animals tail and tried to pull it back PTI SPK GK GK
New Delhi Jan 24 PTI The Delhi Commission for Women DCW on Monday issued a notice to the city police seeking immediate arrest of a man who is accused of harassing his 70-year-old grandmother for her property officials said Fearing for her life the woman a resident of East Vinod Nagar here called up the DCWs 181 helpline on January 20 following which a team arrived at her house and helped her in filing an FIR in the matter they said According to the DCW the woman was facing constant harassment and torture from her grandson demanding that she transfer her property to him The septuagenarian also alleged that the man instigated a dog -- which he brought home some time ago despite her refusal to attack her on January 13 The DCW team that visited the old woman at her house stated that she had sustained grievous wounds all over her hands and attributed the injuries to the attack by the dog The DCW said its team immediately took the old woman to Kalyanpuri police station where an FIR under Section 289 negligent conduct with respect to animal of the Indian Penal Code was filed against her grandson It is a matter of property dispute An FIR has been registered and investigation is on a police officer said DCW chairperson Swati Maliwal said she has asked the police to furnish details of the steps taken to ensure safety of the woman and also a detailed action report in the matter by January 31 PTI AMP CJ CJ

New Delhi Nov 25 The body of a 40-year-old man was found in a garments factory after a fire broke out in Gandhi Nagar area of Shahadra here on early Thursday morning police said The deceased was identified as Sanju who hailed from a village in Uttar Pradeshs Bulandshahar district they said There was no visible burn injury on the victims body so he could have died due to suffocation police said adding a post-mortem examination will ascertain the exact cause of death According to the Fire Department they received a call around 3 am regarding a blaze in a factory and six fire tenders were rushed to the spot Police said the fire tenders could not reach at the exact location as the factory was in a narrow street They said their all-night patrolling staff rushed there and extinguished the fire which broke out on the first floor of the factory with the help of locals Deputy Commissioner of Police Shahadra R Sathiyasundaram said A man later identified as Sanju was found lying unconscious on the factorys first floor He was shifted to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead The premises were used for manufacturing and storage of shirts by a man named Deepak Jain of Ashok Nagar and he was visited by the cime team as part of an inspection the officer said According to the report from the Fire Department further legal action will be taken he said PTI AMP AAR
Kochi Nov 23 PTI A 21-year old third year law student found hanging at her residence in Aluva near here after writing a suicide note blaming her husband in-laws and a police officer for taking such an extreme step In her suicide note she alleged that a Circle Inspector in a police station at Aluva had misbehaved with her when she went there to give her statement along with her father The incident created an uproar in the state which recently saw a string of suicides by women -- including the Vismaya case -- over dowry harassment with Leader of Opposition in state assembly V D Satheesan alleging that the police misbehaved with the victim in the instant matter Aluva Rural SP K Karthik told reporters earlier in the day that he has ordered an investigation into the incident and the probe is being headed by a DySP and based on his report further action would be taken He said that the inquest proceedings were over and the body has been sent for post mortem which would be completed soon He also told the news channel that the victim has left behind a suicide note naming the officer her husband and in-laws Youth Congress workers in Aluva held a protest march seeking action against the errant police officer In the latest incident the victim -- Mofia Parveen -- committed suicide and left behind a note allegedly blaming the Circle Inspector her husband and her in-laws for taking the extreme step Her father speaking to a news channel said he went to the station on Monday with his daughter to give her statement and she had made it clear before going and after reaching there that she does not want her submission to be recorded in her husbands presence However the Circle Inspector spoke to them in her husbands presence and also spoke inappropriately and rudely to him and his daughter the father said and added that it was the officers conduct which demoralised her After returning to her home she was worried whether the police would take any action in view of the officers conduct at the station he claimed and said that later on the same day she committed suicide in her room Satheesan speaking to mediapersons said that the officer in question a Circle Inspector behaved very badly with the complainant who was also a young woman He said that if police behaved like this with complainants especially women then what justice can be expected from it and people will be afraid to approach it with complaints It is a major failure of the system Satheesan said and questioned why the Chief Minister felt obligated to protect such officers Who has given the police licence to behave like this he said The incident has occurred even as the Kerala High Court on various occasions in the past has directed the state police to behave politely with people Last month while hearing a mans plea claiming he was chained to a railing and then charged with the offence of obstructing an officer there from discharging his duties when he had asked for a receipt to his complaint the high court had asked how ordinary citizens will have confidence in the system if such things happen PTI HMP TGB HMP SS SS
Bhopal Nov 20 PTI A 21-year-old man whose wife was allegedly raped and killed by her father earlier this month over her love marriage was found hanging at his home in Madhya Pradeshs Sehore district police said on Saturday The man was found hanging at his home under the Ichhawar police station on Friday but no suicide note was found Superintendent of Police Mayank Awasthi said A case has been registered and further investigation is underway Another police official confirmed that the deceased mans wife was allegedly raped and killed by her father 55 under Ratibad police station in Bhopal earlier this month On Monday the police arrested the father of the victim woman over the incident that occurred in the Samasgarh forest area earlier this month a police official had said The matter came to light when a forest guard spotted the body of a woman and her six-month-old baby lying near Pilota nullah in Samasgarh area on Sunday According to the police the victim a resident of Bilkisganj in the Sehore district had a love marriage about a year ago Currently she had been staying with her elder sister in Ratibad after her infant son died due to some illness on November 4 Following the infants death the victims elder sister had called their father and brother for cremating the baby the official said On their way for cremation on a motorcycle the accused father took the victim inside the Samasgarh forest where he allegedly raped and killed her the official said adding that the accused came out of the forest and narrated the incident to his son and the duo returned to the village The accused confessed to the crime and said that he and other family members were angry with the victim after she married against their wishes the official said PTI COR ADU NSK NSK
