HC directs status quo on IOA elections

New Delhi Nov 30 PTI The Delhi High Court Tuesday directed maintenance of status quo on the elections to the executive committee of the Indian Olympic Association IOA which was scheduled for December 19A bench of Justices Manmohan and Najmi Waziri passed the interim order on a plea by senior advocate Rahul Mehra and listed the matter for further hearing on December 2The court was hearing an application by Mehra in which he submitted that the proposed elections to be held on December 19 is wholly illegal and unsustainable and ought not to be conducted pending the hearing and final disposal of the petition and various applications pending before it He claimed that the IOA has notified its elections and is proposing to hold the same in violation of the orders of the court the law of the land the National Sports Development Code of India and various other directives He has sought directions to refrain the Centre from acting arbitrarily or indulging in action in abject violation and desertion of its dutiesHe also urged the court to reschedule the elections PTI SKV RKS RKS

Jaipur Nov 29 PTI The nomination process for the election of zila parishad and panchayat samiti members began on Monday in four districts of Rajasthan where seven candidates filed their nominations on the first dayState Election Commissioner P S Mehra said seven candidates filed their nomination for panchayat samiti members No candidate filed nomination for the zila parishad polls on the first day he saidThe nominations can be filed till December 2Mehra said in Baran Karauli Kota and Ganganagar districts elections would be held for 106 zilla parishad members 568 panchayat samiti members four zila pramukhs and four upzila pramukh and 30 pradhans and 30 uppradhans A total of 4161 polling booths will be set up for smooth voting in 973 gram panchayats of the four districtsPolling will be conducted in three phases on December 12 15 and 18 from 730 am to 530 pm Counting of votes will take place on December 21 at all district headquarters the official saidSimilarly the election to the post of pradhan or pramukh will be held on December 23 and that of up-pradhan or up-pramukh on December 24 A total of 3252 lakh voters would be able to exercise their franchise in all the districts he addedPTI AG SRY

Panchayat polls Over 65 pc turnout in two Rajasthan districts

Jaipur Oct 26 PTI A turnout of over 65 per cent was recorded in the third and final phase of the panchayat samiti and zila parishad elections in Dholpur and Alwar districts of Rajasthan on Tuesday A total of 6523 per cent voting was registered in the third phase according to the spokesperson of the State Election Commission Highest polling percentage of 6998 was recorded at Kishangarh Bas of Alwar district Of the total 776284 voters in the third phase in both districts 506350 voted State Election Commissioner P S Mehra said the voting percentage was 6424 in the first phase October 20 and 5746 in the second phase October 23 He said the counting will take place at district headquarters on October 29 The election of zila pramukh and panchayat samiti pradhan will be held on October 30 PTI SDA RDK RDK
