Mumbai Jan 22 PTI A 19-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped by four persons in the eastern suburb of Govandi in the early hours of Saturday police said The police have detained three minors involved in the attack that took place in Shivaji Nagar area and a hunt has been launched for the fourth accused an official said The incident took place around 430 am in a slum at Matti Road he said The woman worked with some caterers and was returning from a job when the accused accosted her and one of them told her that he had some work and wanted to speak to her the official said The accused then took the woman to a loft in a room at a slum where he raped her along with his friends he said The accused fled the scene soon after following which the victim called police and informed them about the incident the official said An FIR under section 376 rape and other relevant provisions of the IPC was registered he said At least 10 police teams were dispatched to Vajreshwari Mumbra Vashi Belapur Wadala CSMT LT Marg Mumbai Central railway stations he said With the help of technical inputs two minors were taken into custody while they were trying to flee to Basti in Uttar Pradesh by train this afternoon the official said Following interrogation the police got information about one more minor accused who was also nabbed he added PTI DC ARU ARU

Mumbai Nov 17 PTI Passengers of Indian Railways and even common people can now avail of modern resting facilities at comparatively cheaper rates thanks to the first-of-its-kind pod hotel which has come up at the Mumbai Central station According to a senior Western Railway WR official one has to pay Rs 999 for 12 hours and Rs 1999 for 24 hours for staying in this pod hotel where facilities like WiFi TV a small locker adjustable mirror and reading lights etc will be provided A pod hotel has several small bed-sized capsules and provides affordable overnight accommodation The first pod hotel on the Indian Railways was inaugurated virtually on Wednesday by Union minister of state for Railways Raosaheb Danve from the Churchgate station in south Mumbai The minister also inaugurated various passenger amenities via video link Speaking at the event Danve said passengers will get the accommodation at affordable rates at the pod-concept hotel also known as capsule hotels He also inaugurated a Railway Public Grievance office at the Churchgate station Confirmed seats are not available for passengers who travel in general compartments of trains Railways should ensure that the passengers are provided confirmed seats he said On the occasion Danve dedicated to people platforms at Ambernath and Kopar railway stations on the Mumbai suburban network foot overbridges escalators lifts and toilet blocks He also inaugurated a coach-themed restaurant at CSMT and an executive waiting hall at CSMT and Mumbai Central railway stations A reconstructed Road Over Bridge near Grant Road station an integrated surveillance system on Mumbai suburban section of Western Railway were also inaugurated Speaking on the occasion opposition leader Devendra Fadnavis requested Danve to revive proposed elevated corridor projects for boosting the carrying capacity on the Mumbai suburban corridors Railway authorities had planned elevated corridors between Churchgate and Virar on Western Railway and CSMT-Panvel stations on Central Railway Union minister Ramdas Athawale who also attended the inauguration function suggested the construction of malls at stations like Dadar Sion Kurla and Churchgate so that passengers can do shopping while returning home Alok Kansal general manager of WR said the total cost of the projects and facilities inaugurated on Wednesday was worth Rs 230 crore He said the pod concept hotel at the Mumbai Central station is the first-of-its-kind on the Indian Railways Passengers can avail all modern facilities at comparatively cheaper rates at these pod concept rooms Passengers as well as the general public can stay at the pod rooms by paying Rs 999 for 12 hours and Rs 1999 for 24 hours he added PTI KK NSK NSK

Aurangabad Oct 28 PTI Several tourists had to cover the distance of around four kilometers to reach the world famous Ajanta caves near here by sitting in bullock carts instead of buses on Thursday as the state transport employees went on a strike in the morning an official said Some of the tourists even preferred to walk this four-km distance between the parking bay near the caves till the ticket window he said Tourists visiting the Ajanta caves couldnt take the regular state transport buses between the parking facility and the caves as the service remained shut due to the strike of the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation MSRTC employees The closure of the ferry bus service also impacted the footfall of tourists to the caves a senior official of the world heritage sites office said Nearly 100 tourists visited the Ajanta caves and this number was lower than usual he said When local villagers came to know about the state transport employees strike they brought their bullock carts to the parking lot to serve the tourists Nearly five-six such carts ferried the tourists through the day Many of them even walked from the parking lot to the caves the official added The Ajanta cave complex is located nearly 100 km away from Aurangabad city MSRTC employees went on a spontaneous agitation in the morning over their various demands including DA merger with salary The bus operations at several depots of the state-run transport undertaking including at Mumbai Central where the MSRTCs headquarters is located were stopped in support of the agitation officials said The MSRTC is one of the biggest public transport corporations in the county with a fleet of more than 16000 buses and around 93000 employees including drivers and conductors Before the pandemic around 65 lakh passengers used to travel in the MSRTC buses everyday PTI AW NP NP
