However, researchers have now shown that DHODH blockers, which are well-tolerated in humans, can cure neuroblastoma in mice if administered in combination with chemotherapy. The study paves the way for clinical trials of this combination therapy.

Approximately half of the children with neuroblastoma have a type that suggests a high risk of recurrence. Patients with this high-risk neuroblastoma may benefit from a "bridge therapy" between induction and consolidation treatments.
