Kohima Apr 22 PTI The Centres interlocutor for Naga peace talks A K Mishra Friday met the principal negotiator of NSCNIM Thuingaleng Muivah at Chumoukedima police complex here Friday This was the second meeting between Mishra and the octogenarian Muivah who was accompanied by about 11 senior NSCNIM leaders this week No detail about the meeting was shared with the media but a senior fucntionary of the outfit told PTI that there will be another round of talks between Mishra and a larger number of NSCNIM leaders again on Saturday Mishra who arrived in Nagaland on Monday for his second visit to the state since assuming office in September last year held an interaction with Naga National Political Groups NNPG a body of eight Naga organisations on Thursday The Centre has been holding separate talks with the NSCNIM since 1997 and the NNPG from 2017 It signed the Framework Agreement with NSCNIM on August 3 2015 and an Agreed Position with NNPG on November 17 2017 However no final solution to the vexed issue has been arrived at with NSCNIM sticking to its demand for a separate flag and constitution for the Nagas Mishra had met Muivah on Tuesday at Camp Hebron the NSCNIM headquarters near Dimapur Before leaving the state he will meet the state governments core committee on Naga political issue headed by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and comprising Naga civil societies officials said Meanwhile the Nagaland Gaon Burah Federation NGBF an apex body of village chieftains have appealed for a solution to the protracted issue before the state election due early next year The appeal was made during the 30th general session of NGBF held at Phek Town on Thursday The body also resolved that if the situation demanded the NGBF would take up democratic agitations PTI NBS KK KK KK

Itanagar Mar 21 PTI Security forces gunned down two suspected NSCNIM insurgents while another was injured in an encounter in Tirap district of Arunachal Pradesh police and Assam Rifles officials said here on Monday One cadre of the outfit was arrested by the security personnel who also recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition Inspector General of Police Law Order Chukhu Apa said Local people however claimed that one of the two persons killed and the injured man were civilians who were picked up by NSCNIM cadres by force to work as their guides The Tirap district administration has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident which occurred at Old Kolagaon near Khonsa the district headquarters on Sunday An AK-56 rifle with a magazine one 556 mm M4A1 carbine made in the US a 32 mm pistol a huge cache of ammunition and other warlike stores were recovered from the encounter site Apa said The NSCNIM insurgents have been carrying out extortion drives and recruiting new cadres in Tirap district since January the police official said The IGP said that Triap district police and Assam Rifles jointly launched an operation based on intelligence inputs about the presence of the NSCNIM cadres in the area Commanding Officer of 6 Assam Rifles Col A K Das said that security forces intercepted around five people in the jungle area between Old and New Golagaon villages at around 11 am on Sunday They were armed with assault rifles When our team asked them to surrender they fired upon us so we had to return the fire in which two of them were killed and one suffered injuries One of the deceased is a self-styled corporal of the NSCNIM he said The injured man was taken to a hospital in Dibrugarh town of AssamCol Das said that while one of the insurgents fled the spot the security forces managed to apprehend a self-styled private of the underground outfit and he has been sent to police custody Local people however claimed that Retto Kakho one of the two men killed in the incident and the injured man Pakngam Lowang are civilians who have no association with the NSCNIM Kakho is a former panchayat leader of Old Kolagaon village and a public leader one of the locals said All Tirap Students Union ATSU general secretary Priyang Pumoh said according to the family members of the deceased Khako and Lowang were picked up by the NSCN-IM to act as local guides for them They were forced to lead the way for the insurgents and they had no other option Pumoh saidCondemning the incident a 12-hour bandh was also enforced in Tirap district by ATSU on Monday while protest rallies were held at Khonsa and Deomali Members of the All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union and the North East Students Organisation also joined the protestsPumoh said a memorandum seeking compensation for Kakhos family and education assistance for his children were submitted to the Assam Rifles On Kakho and Lowang being civilians Col Das said the matter is being investigated If they were civilians why were they moving with the armed group in the middle of the jungle Normally those who help insurgents are considered over-ground workers We shall wait for the inquiry report he said PTI UPL NN NN

Kohima Sep 21 PTI Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and his Nagaland counterpart Neiphiu Rio held closed door interaction with NSCNIM chief negotiator Thuingaleng Muivah at Dimapur on Tuesday a government official said The interaction which was held a day after the resumption of talks between the Centre and NSCNIM to find a solution to the vexed Naga political issue was also confirmed by Neiba Kronu NSCNIM is holding talks with political leaders for the first time since it started the negotiations with the Centre in 1997 We have never had talks with political leaders But we have to if they are assigned by the central government NSCNIM leader R Raising told reporters on Monday after Muivahs meeting with the Centres interlocutor A K Mishra at Dimapur Asked if Sarma has been officially appointed to have parleys with the Naga negotiators Kronu told PTI He is assisting us as he is the convener of North East Democratic Alliance and he knows the issue He however declined to divulge details of the discussion held between Sarma and NSCNIM leadership Kronu also said that Sarma also had a sitting with the presidents of Nationalist Democratic Progressive NDPP and the state BJP It was Sarma who had formally declared the alliance between BJP and NDPP ahead of the 2018 Nagaland assembly election The minister said it was a courtesy visit to reaffirm that BJP and NDPP will remain partners even for the 2023 state election Chief Minister Rio and Deputy CM Y Patton were also present during the poltical parties meeting with Sarma he said In reply to a question Kronu said there was no discussion in the meeting on the newly formed all party government United Democratic Alliance UDA in Nagaland PTI NBS KK KK KK
