Jammu Mar 19 PTI BSF is alive to the use of drones from across the border for smuggling of weapons and narcotics and is fully prepared to thwart any such attempt the forces top official said on Saturday We are completely mindful of whatever is required to maintain the complete sanctity and integrity of our borders and thwart nefarious designs of the anti-national elements BSF Director General Pankaj Kumar Singh said Singh along with BSF Jammu Inspector General D K Boora was visiting Suchetgarh sector along the International Border here for the retreat ceremony at Border Outpost Octroi which was introduced last year to boost border tourism Singh had reached here on Friday for a three-day visit to review security along the IB and the Line of Control We are placing anti-drone systems and in the coming times we will be able to neutralize any threat Singh said on the sidelines of the event We are fully prepared and I am here to review the preparations on our part We will further improve the security set up in the coming times he said Responding to a question about one year of successful ceasefire between India and Pakistan the BSF chief said both sides are abiding by the agreement and there is no major violation of the agreement like cross-border firing On terror infrastructure and number of terrorists on the launching pads across the border Singh said we have a good enough idea and we are working on it We sit with other security agencies and if you are alert there is no difficulty in getting the information We are very well aware where such elements are present and what type of plans they are making and we act accordingly he said He said that situation along the Punjab and Gujarat borders was well under control The electronic surveillance system whether underground or in the shape of cameras and lights is there We are in the process of installing extensive lights and their variety is also being changed for clear visibility in Punjab he said Singh also acknowledged inaccessibility to marshlands in Gujarat and the challenge they pose but spoke of measures the force has taken to counteract the difficulties We are up to the mark there as well We are equipped with necessary gadgets and other equipment like fast speed-boats and floating border outposts We are maintaining very good surveillance The DG BSF also attended a security review meeting chaired by home minister Amit Shah here Asked about the possibility of an increase in infiltration attempts with the melting of snow he said we will not allow any wrongdoing Our jawans are absolutely alert with all the sophisticated equipment and gadgets to respond effectively to the enemies of the nation he said in his message to the soldiers PTI TAS TAS VN VN

Ahmedabad Nov 19 PTI A consultant appointed by the Gujarat government has identified 22 sites in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar cities with a potential to host the Olympics and the state government will soon engage with the International Olympic Committee IOC to convey its intention to host the games in 2036 an official said on Friday The development has come nearly five months after the Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority AUDA invited proposals from consultants to conduct a gap analysis to assess the existing infrastructure in the city and find out what is needed to make it a potential venue for the summer Olympic games PricewaterhouseCoopers Private Limited the consulting agency appointed by the AUDA on Thursday made a presentation to Gujarat Chief Secretary Pankaj Kumar on infrastructure gap assessment concept plan and roadmap for hosting 2036 Summer Olympics a state government release stated During the meeting with officials concerned the chief secretary reviewed the master plan of the upcoming Sardar Patel Sports Enclave in Motera and the preliminary infrastructure feasibility study for hosting of the 2036 Olympic Games in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar it stated As per the release a detailed assessment of all the key sports and non-sports facilities of Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar has been undertaken aligned with the requirements of the International Olympic Committee It was found that 22 sites in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar have a potential for hosting of the future Olympic Games It is also observed that out of these 22 potential venues minor modifications are required in six sites for hosting of the Olympic Games it said While temporary facilities can be created at six sites the consultant proposed that the remaining sites require significant redevelopment to accommodate additional sports it was stated Apart from this the assessment suggested venues including Shivrajpur Beach in Devbhumi Dwarka district and Polo Forest in Sabarkantha district for hosting various water and mountain sports it said Moreover places in Goa Andaman and Nicobar Islands and other national venues may also be considered for hosting of ocean sports mountain sports and select other sports that are required to be held nationally at various locations the release said The state government will soon commence engagement with International Olympic Committee IOC to convey Ahmedabad citys intention to host the Olympics it was stated To prepare and present a compelling case for hosting the Olympics the state government will also create a Special Purpose Vehicle to undertake detailed planning and assessment the release said In February this year President Ram Nath Kovind had performed the ground-breaking ceremony for the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Sports Enclave in Motera which houses the newly built Narendra Modi Stadium During his recent visit here Indian Olympic Association president Narinder Batra had said the organisation is in talks with the International Olympic Committee for a possible bid by India to host the 2036 summer games and added that Motera Stadium is the best venue for an opening ceremony PTI PJT PD ARU ARU
