Washington [US], October 19 (ANI): Smooth, foamy, and water-resistant. These qualities are highly desired in beauty products, but manufacturers sometimes use fluorine-containing ingredients, including potentially harmful per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), to achieve them. Researchers have discovered that some cosmetics and personal care products labelled as containing fluorinated components also contain PFAS, regardless of whether these "forever chemicals" were listed as ingredients.
Bloomington [US], September 24 (ANI): A study found that pupils in the US and Canada are routinely exposed through their uniforms to possibly dangerous amounts of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). All nine of the well-known brands of "stain-resistant" school uniforms that the researchers evaluated contained PFAS. Concentrations in the majority of the goods were comparable to those in outdoor apparel.
Boston [US], July 23 (ANI): The School of Public Health and Health Sciences' Alicia Timme-Laragy, an associate professor, studies the effects of early life exposures to two common per- and polyfluoroalkylated substances (PFAS) chemicals, which are present in waterproof and nonstick household products as well as the PFAS-containing aqueous film-forming foam (AFFF), on the developing pancreas. These so-called "forever chemicals" have contaminated drinking water all around the world and take decades to degrade in the environment.
