Kohima Apr 22 PTI The Centres interlocutor for Naga peace talks A K Mishra Friday met the principal negotiator of NSCNIM Thuingaleng Muivah at Chumoukedima police complex here Friday This was the second meeting between Mishra and the octogenarian Muivah who was accompanied by about 11 senior NSCNIM leaders this week No detail about the meeting was shared with the media but a senior fucntionary of the outfit told PTI that there will be another round of talks between Mishra and a larger number of NSCNIM leaders again on Saturday Mishra who arrived in Nagaland on Monday for his second visit to the state since assuming office in September last year held an interaction with Naga National Political Groups NNPG a body of eight Naga organisations on Thursday The Centre has been holding separate talks with the NSCNIM since 1997 and the NNPG from 2017 It signed the Framework Agreement with NSCNIM on August 3 2015 and an Agreed Position with NNPG on November 17 2017 However no final solution to the vexed issue has been arrived at with NSCNIM sticking to its demand for a separate flag and constitution for the Nagas Mishra had met Muivah on Tuesday at Camp Hebron the NSCNIM headquarters near Dimapur Before leaving the state he will meet the state governments core committee on Naga political issue headed by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and comprising Naga civil societies officials said Meanwhile the Nagaland Gaon Burah Federation NGBF an apex body of village chieftains have appealed for a solution to the protracted issue before the state election due early next year The appeal was made during the 30th general session of NGBF held at Phek Town on Thursday The body also resolved that if the situation demanded the NGBF would take up democratic agitations PTI NBS KK KK KK

Kohima Dec 22 PTI The Nagaland Health and Family Welfare Department has sent the samples of a man who tested positive for COVID-19 on his return from the USA for genome sequencing to find the variant of the virus an official said on Wednesday Principal Director of Health and Family Welfare Dr Neikhrielie Khimiao told reporters here that the person had returned eight days back and was in quarantine as per the laid down protocols and the test result has been found positive However with Nagaland lacking the facility for genome sequencing the sample has been sent outside the state to detect the variant of the virus and the report is expected in the next 5-6 days he said Till the result of proper genome sequencing is out we cannot say whether it is delta or omicron variant he said Dr Khimiao asserted that the Health Department is fully geared up to combat any situation With the impending Omicron variant we have issued all the necessary information advisories and orders to all districts for due precautions at all levels he said In particular the border districts Dimapur Kohima Mon Phek Wokha and Mokokchung have been asked to remain very cautious with the inbound travellers he said State Nodal Officer for Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme Dr Nyanthung Kikon said that the tools for prevention are the same even for the Omicron variant Covid Appropriate Behaviour CAB and vaccination The severity of Omicron is not as much as the other variant but its highly transmissible and once it starts transmitting there will be a huge load on the health infrastructure with increase in hospitalization and unfortunate incidents might take place he said Meanwhile State Nodal Officer for Bio-Safety Level-3 laboratories in Nagaland Dr V Tina Khamo said that a proposal has been sent to the government to set up facilities for genome sequencing in BSL-3 laboratory in Kohima so that samples can be tested here and result declared quickly Nagalands COVID-19 tally rose to 32170 on Wednesday as one more person tested positive for the virus The state now has 83 active COVID-19 cases while 30317 people have recovered from the disease and 1069 patients have migrated to other states The COVID-19 death toll in the state remained at 701 for the fifth consecutive day on Wednesday as no fresh fatality was reported A total of 1332942 doses of COVID-19 vaccine has been administered to 758869 people in the state till Tuesday State Immunization Officer Dr Ritu Thurr said PTI NBS RG RG

Kohima Oct 30 PTI Nagaland on Saturday reported 20 fresh COVID-19 cases 19 less than the previous day with the tally rising to 31831 an official said The death toll remained at 684 for the second consecutive day Of the new cases eight were reported from Dimapur five from Mokokchung three from Kohima two from Kiphire and one each in Phek and Wokha districts At least 19 positive patients recuperated from the disease during the period taking the recovered persons tally to 29883 The recovery rate among coronavirus patients in the state is 9388 per cent Nagaland now has 222 active COVID-19 cases while 1042 coronavirus patients migrated to other states As many as 394948 samples have so far been tested for COVID-19 in Nagaland State Immunisation Officer Dr Ritu Thurr said a total of 1199869 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered to 710368 people till Friday PTI NBS MM MM

Kohima Oct 28 PTI Single-day recoveries outnumbered new COVID-19 cases in Nagaland on Thursday as 22 more people were cured of the disease and 13 fresh infections reported a health department official said The new infections pushed the states tally to 31772 while 29844 people have so far recovered from the disease it said The death toll increased to 684 as three more COVID patients two in Mokokchung and one in Zunheboto - died during the day Of the new cases five were reported from Dimapur four from Kohima three from Mokokchung and one from Phek The recovery rate among coronavirus patients in the state currently stands at 9393 per cent Nagaland now has 210 active cases while 1034 COVID patients have so far migrated to other states Over 393 lakh sample tests have been conducted for COVID-19 so far he said State Immunisation Officer Dr Ritu Thurr said 1191433 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered to 709015 eligible beneficiaries till Wednesday PTI NBS BDC BDC

Kohima Oct 26 PTI The Nagaland government on Tuesday said refugees from trouble-torn Myanmar have entered Mon district of the state State Land Revenue and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Neiba Kronu told a press conference that those crossing over to Nagaland are mainly Nagas of Myanmar The exact number of people who entered Mon district from Myanmar is yet to be ascertained Kronu said Our own people are coming from Myanmar and they are being provided refuge by the churches and tribal bodies of the district on humanitarian grounds the minister said Four districts of the state -Phek Kiphire Noklak and Mon lie along the Indo-Myanmar border Myanmar nationals have been fleeing the country since February following a military coup that left its democratically elected government in exile and sparked protests and subsequent crackdowns We should help our own people coming from Myanmar he said Nagaland Mizoram Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh share their border with Myanmar Police records in Mizoram in mid-September said as many as 11035 Myanmar nationals were residing in Mizoram A senior police officer however said that the number keeps changing amid fresh influx and outflow along the porous international border PTI NBS MM MM
