The Union government is considering bringing a quality control order for silk with an aim to contain import of sub-standard product and boost domestic industry, Union Commerce and Industries Minister Piyush Goyal said on Thursday.
Piyush Goyal said that textile is a sector where margins of 5 per cent are very important to become competitive, adding, "With the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with countries we are insisting that we get duty-free access for Indian textiles. Both in UAE and Australia textile sector assures me that the possibilities for growth are huge. We are working on FTAs which will all give a boost to the textile sector."
Badenoch, who begins her India visit on Monday, is scheduled to address both teams of negotiators teams before the sixth round of talks begins. The negotiations will take place throughout the week.
He added, "They are not even backed by RTI (Right to Information). They are a lot of cases when you go for fact-checking and it would come out with fake claims. There is a senior member in the House in the front."
Badenoch's visit marks the sixth round of formal negotiations between UK and India. The goal of strengthening bilateral ties and reviving talks on an ambitious bilateral trade deal between the two nations, according to an official statement.
Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution and Textiles, Piyush Goyal on Thursday said that India will have to face global competition effectively to achieve the goal of becoming a prosperous and developed nation.
While addressing the gathering at 'Millets-Smart Nutritive Food' Conclave in New Delhi, Minister Goyal said that the Millets-Smart Nutritive Food Conclave and the first international buyer-seller meet on millets being held on the sidelines of the Conclave would help prepare the country for the 'International Year of Millets 2023'.
The official handle of the Commerce Minister said: "Grateful to the Finance Ministry for their support to make this a success. It will help eliminate duplication while applying for licences."
The Union minister held talks with the Karnataka chief minister in the presence of state Minister for Large and Medium Irrigation and Water Resources Govind M Karjol and Additional Chief Secretary for the Water Resources department, Rakesh Singh.
