New Delhi Feb 27 PTI Overnight rain in parts of the national capital brought down the minimum temperature to 121 degrees Celsius on Sunday the India Meteorological Department IMD said The relative humidity recorded at 830 am was 89 per cent it said The weatherman has predicted partly cloudy sky during the day while the maximum temperature is expected to settle around 25 degrees Celsius On Saturday the maximum temperature in the national capital was at 238 degrees Celsius two notches below the seasons average while the minimum temperature settled at 134 degrees Celsius a notch above the seasons average PTI AMP SMN SMN
New Delhi Feb 25 PTI More than 300 Delhi Police personnel were placed under suspension last year for various irregularities official data showed During 2021 departmental enquiries found 454 police personnel involved in various irregularities A total of 607 pending departmental enquiries were disposed of last year According to the Delhi Police data 318 personnel -- 13 inspectors 29 sub-inspectors 52 assistant sub-inspectors 80 head constables 143 constables and one MTS multi-tasking staff -- were suspended by the vigilance unit As many as 372 personnel -- three inspectors 20 sub-inspectors 37 assistant sub-inspectors 80 head constables 231 constables and one MTS -- were awarded major punishments with 95 of them facing dismissal the data showed A total of 1390 police personnel -- 93 inspectors 380 sub-inspectors 290 assistant sub-inspectors 274 head constables and 352 constables and one MTS were awarded minor punishment last year the data showed PTI AMP SMN SMN
New Delhi Feb 19 PTI The Delhi Police investigating the recoveries of IEDs in Ghazipur and Old Seemapuri has found that the design and component of the explosives were same and that a stolen motorcycle was parked near both the spots Investigators believe that the same persons were behind planting the IEDs within a month The sketches of two suspects have been prepared a senior police officer said adding that efforts are being made to nab them at the earliest The IEDs found in an Old Seemapuri house on Thursday and in the Ghazipur flower market on January 17 were prepared with the intention of carrying out blasts at public places across the city Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana had said on Friday Such activities are not possible without local support he had added The investigation revealed that both IEDs were made with a mix of ammonium nitrate and RDX the senior police officer said Both explosives were defused in a controlled manner and no one was injured In a CCTV footage collected from near the Ghazipur spot a black Hero Splendor motorcycle was seen parked nearby And after the IED recovery in Old Seemapuri the police recovered a similar bike from near Dilshad Garden Metro Station It was found to be stolen and investigators believe it is the same motorcycle seen in the CCTV footage collected from the Ghazipur spot The improvised explosive device IED recovered from the Old Seemapuri house weighing 25 to 3 kg was defused and the house owner and a property dealer were questioned in this connection The recovery of the IED at the Ghazipur flower market came ahead of Republic Day celebrations on January 26 for which the security apparatus in the national capital was on high alert Delhi Police chief Asthana earlier said the Special Cell and other teams were investigating the case The investigators are probing forward and backward linkages We are trying to pre-empt every such incident in Delhi and expose any local and foreign network he added Officials from the National Investigation Agency and the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad had on Friday visited the scene of crime in Old Seemapuri as multiple agencies have been working on the case PTI AMP SMN SMN
New Delhi Jan 18 PTI A 29-year-old married man was stabbed to death by three persons for his alleged frequent interactions with the sister of one of them despite repeated objections police said on Tuesday The deceased was identified as Salman He married four years ago and is survived by two children his wife and mother they said Police said two women have been apprehended in connection with the incident that took place on Monday night and efforts are on to catch the three absconding men According to the police the victims mother a resident of Trilokpuri approached Mayur Vihar police station with a complaint stating that her son Salman used to speak to a girl residing near their house before his marriage Both the families always objected to their friendship On Monday at about 10 pm the girl called Salman near her house and was talking to him Meanwhile her sister spotted them talking to each other and alerted her family She immediately called her brother Fardeen alias Addu who came to the spot along with two-three persons and started abusing and beating Salman The girls sister and mother instigated Fardeen and his associates to teach a lesson to Salman the victims mother alleged in her complaint Fardeen stabbed Salman with a knife and when the victims mother called out for help Fardeen and his associates ran away from the spot according to the complaint Salman was taken to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival the police said Deputy Commissioner of Police East Priyanka Kashyap said a case of was registered under Indian Penal Code sections 302 murder 201 causing disappearance of evidence of offence or giving false information to screen offender and 34 acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention at Mayur Vihar on the complaint of mother of the deceased An investigation has been taken up two accused women have been apprehended and the other three male accused will be nabbed soon she said PTI AMP SMN SMN
New Delhi Dec 23 PTI A 25-year-old member of the Kapil Sangwan gang was arrested with a huge cache of arms following a brief exchange of fire with the police in outer Delhi on early Thursday morning a police officer said Accused Sidharth alias Somveer who hails from a village in Jhajjar district of Haryana suffered a bullet injury on his right thigh and was admitted to a hospital Police said the accused was caught with 12 pistols and 47 live cartridges which were allegedly meant to be distributed to the gangs operatives based in Delhi A preliminary inquiry has revealed that the accused is part of the gang led by Kapil Sangwan who now lives abroad Deputy Commissioner of Police Outer North Brijindra Kumar Yadav said Our special staff got a tip-off about the movement of member of dreaded Kapil Sangwan alias Nandu and Jyoti Baba gang Based on the information a trap was laid near Nala Road Kadipur village here wherein the accused was intercepted while he was spotted coming on a motorcycle The accused opened fire on seeing police party so in order to restrain his activity and to stop him from fleeing from the spot our staff also fired four rounds aiming towards his legs Out of which one bullet hit the accused on his right thigh he said The accused was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment and is out of danger he added The motorcycle recovered from the accused was also found to have been stolen from Shahadra area he added PTI AMP SMN
New Delhi Dec 16 PTI The Delhi Police was awarded the first rank among major state police forces in the implementation of Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems CCTNS on Thursday officials said The announcement was made at an annual conference on good practices in CCTNSICJS Inter-operable Criminal Justice System organised by the National Crime Records Bureau under the Ministry of Home Affairs they said Delhi Police has been awarded 1st rank among all major states police in the implementation of CCTNS project Delhi Police PRO Chinmoy Biswal said According to a statement issued by the PRO Delhi Police stood first with an overall score of 986 per cent among the major states implementing the project It achieved 100 per cent data entry for registration of FIRs arrest property seizure final reports and charge sheets Delhi has also achieved the third rank in ICJS implementation the statement said PTI AMP SMN SMN
New Delhi Nov 27 PTI Under its month-long drug de-addiction campaign the northwest district of Delhi Police admitted 20 people to rehabilitation centres of whom three have fully recovered and been discharged officials said on Saturday These three fully recovered men are now creating awareness and helping police personnel in motivating addicted people to go to rehabilitation centres with an aim to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society they said Under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan the northwest district initiated the month-long drug de-addiction campaign wherein it identified and counselled people often caught with drugs and those booked under the NDPS Act they said In the past one month more than 12 people were arrested with illicit drugs while 18 others were arrested under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act Over 430 people have been booked under the COTPA this year police officials said Many of these offenders are young boys from financially weaker backgrounds they said Such people were counselled to stay at the rehab centres for a few months Among the 20 such people who were admitted three of them have been discharged while several others are undergoing therapy We are seeing a change in people and this will help us make our area drug free a senior police officer said We wanted to work towards a drug-free society When we analysed our district we found that though there arent many gangs operating here but there are many individuals who are peddling and consuming drugs We started with awareness drives and invited college students and NGOs to hold nukkad nataks said Usha Rangnani Deputy Commissioner of Police Northwest District police teams have been working with rehab centres and skill training centres to create awareness provide medical help and jobs to the youth she said PTI AMP SMN SMN
New Delhi Oct 31 PTI Ahead of Diwali a 33-year-old Noida shopkeeper has been arrested from southeast Delhis Hazrat Nizamuddin area for allegedly carrying217 kg firecrackers in his vehicle despite a ban on their sale and bursting police said on Sunday The vehicle used for carrying the firecrackers has also been seized from accused Heera Lal who runs a shop at his native place in Noida they said According to the police Lal was arrested on Friday why a police team deployed on Lala Lajpat Rai Marg intercepted his vehicle after a brief chase and recovered the firecrackers weighing about 217 kg When he was questioned about the firecrackers he could not give any satisfactory response initially During interrogation later Lal disclosed that he had purchased the firecrackers to sell them at his shop at a higher price in order to earn quick money said Esha Pandey Deputy Commissioner of Police Southeast A case has been registered against Lal under section 286 negligent conduct with respect to explosive substance of the Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of the Explosive Substances Act at Hazrat Nizamuddin police station she said On September 28 the Delhi Pollution Control Committee DPCC had ordered a complete ban on the sale and bursting of firecrackers in the national capital till January 1 next year PTI AMP SMN SMN
New Delhi Sep 23 PTI A five-year-old boy died and his mother sustained minor injuries after a tree fell on an auto-rickshaw near IP Extension in east Delhi police said on Thursday The incident took place around 2 pm on Wednesday when the boy along with his parents and a relative were travelling in the auto-rickshaw they said The boy was standing inside the auto-rickshaw when the tree fell on the vehicle and he suffered a head injury while his mother sustained minor injuries a senior police officer said The two were taken to a nearby hospital where the boy was declared dead on arrival and his mother was discharged after treatment he said The body has been handed over to the family after post-mortem the police said PTI AMP SMN SMN
