Thane Apr 27 PTI Thane police have arrested a 27-year-old man from West Bengal for allegedly raping a teenage girl after abducting her two years ago from here in Maharashtra an official said on Wednesday The accused who worked as a mason in Ulhasnagar township here had allegedly kidnapped the girl now aged 16 from near her house and taken her to his native place in West Bengal where he took up farming Hill Line police stations senior police inspector Laxman Sariputra said The girls family members had then filed a kidnapping complaint with police against an unidentified person Recently based on a tip-off a police team from here traced the man and the girl to Burwan village in West Bengals Murshidabad district the official said The man was arrested and the girl who now has a child was handed over to her parents on Tuesday the official said The accused was booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences POCSO Act he added PTI COR GK GK

Thane Apr 26 PTI A 28-year-old man was killed by some unidentified persons here in Maharashtra police said on Tuesday The incident took place on the intervening night of Sunday-Monday in Badlapur township here they said Some passersby spotted the body of Prasad Jinjukre who used to do painting work near a bridge and alerted the police Badlapur East police stations senior inspector Srikant Sonde said The culprits had smashed the victims face with a stone he said The police suspect that the victim might have had a quarrel with some persons while consuming liquor but the exact motive behind the killing was not yet known The body was sent to a government hospital for postmortem A case was registered against unidentified persons under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code the police said adding that no arrest was made so far PTI COR GK GK

Thane Apr 26 PTI A major fire broke out in a timber godown in Maharashtras Thane district on Tuesday but there was no report of any casualty a civic official said The blaze erupted around 230 am in the godown located near a school in Rahnal village of Bhiwandi town here Thane Municipal Corporations regional disaster management cell chief Avinash Sawant said Three fire engines were rushed to the spot and the blaze was doused after four hours he said The godown was completely gutted in the fire but no person was injured the official said The cause of the fire is not yet known he said adding that cooling operations are currently underway PTI COR GK GK

Nagpur Apr 25 PTI An aged man was killed after a fire broke out in his furniture shop in Maharashtras Nagpur district on Monday police said The blaze erupted around 3 am in the shop located in Katol town about 60 km from the district headquarters they said The furniture shop was located on the ground floor of a building while the family owning the shop lived in a house on the first floor The shop owner Noor Mohd Hussain Bothar 93 was bed-ridden and unable to walk He was sleeping in the shop and died of suffocation due to smoke after the fire Katol police stations inspector Mahadev Achrekar said Three fire tenders were pressed into service and firefighters managed to douse the flames after about three hours he said A case of accidental death was registered The cause of the fire was not yet known the police said PTI COR GK GK

Pune Apr 24 PTI Police have arrested a real estate agent for allegedly raping a 24-year-old woman when she had gone to see a house for taking it on rent here in Maharashtra an official said on Sunday The incident took place on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday the official from Vimantal police station said The woman who works as a hairdresser got in touch with the 38-year-old real estate agent through a website and communicated with him for a week via messages about flats available on rent On Friday night the accused called the woman to see a house When the woman reached Wagholi area the accused took her to his residence under the pretext of waiting till the flat owner comes the official said When they reached the accuseds home he allegedly asked her to remove her clothes and recorded the act on his phone the police said quoting the womans complaint The man then threatened the woman to make the video viral and allegedly raped her The victim later asked to go to the washroom She then managed to get out of the house while locking the man inside She asked for help from other area residents who alerted the police the official said The accused was subsequently arrested and the woman was sent for a medical examination the police added PTI COR GK GK
