Puducherry Mar 27 PTI Puducherry reported zero fresh coronavirus cases for the third straight day on Sunday a senior official of the health department said Health Department Director G Sriramulu said 185 samples were tested during the last 24 hours and no fresh case of infection surfaced The overall caseload remained unchanged at 165774 There was no fresh fatality as well during the last 24 hours in the Union Territory and the death toll stood at 1962 He said there were four active cases and they were all in home quarantine No recoveries were reported for the day and the overall number of cured also remained the same at 163808 Sriramulu said the test positivity rate was zero while the fatality and recovery rates were 118 per cent and 9881 per cent respectively The Health Department has so far tested 2227747 samples across the UT and has found 1872402 samples out of them to be negative Sriramulu said 1631669 COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered so far and they comprised 945637 first doses 672174 second doses and 13858 booster doses PTI COR HDA HDA

Chennai Mar 18 PTI The Madras High Court on Friday refused to discharge Twitter from the defamation case filed by film director Susi Ganesan against poet and filmmaker Leena Manimekalai various film personalities and other social media organisations Justice P Velmurugan rejected the plea while dismissing an application from Twitter Originally Susi Ganesan had moved the IX Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Saidapet with a defamation petition to punish Manimekalai and playback singer Chinmayi for their MeToo allegations against him in 2019 He had claimed that their accusations were baseless and aimed at tarnishing his name and reputation in the film industry Newsminute an online news media company Facebook Google Twitter and various such organisations were the other accused in the case They had allegedly publishedcarried the defamatory statements He had also moved the Supreme Court which in December last year directed the Saidapet Magistrate court to complete the trial within four months Meanwhile he had moved the High Court with an application seeking to restrain the defendants Manimekalai and others from making any such allegation against him He had also demanded a compensation of Rs 110 crore to be paid collectively by the defendants Justice Abdul Quddhose on January 20 had restrained the defendants from makingpublishing defamatory statements against Ganeshan The Principal Sessions Judge here on March 4 had rejected a plea from Manimekalai to transfer the defamation case from the Saidapet Magistrate court to some other court on the ground that the magistrate was biased towards her When the matter came up today in the High Court the counsel for Twitter told Justice Velmurugan that his client was only a social media organisation engaged in disseminating information and it should not be held responsible for the same which was rejected After directing the defendants to file their written arguments the judge adjourned the matter till April 13 PTI COR HDA HDA

Puducherry Feb 27 PTI Puducherry witnessed a further dip in new COVID-19 cases with only 10 new infections reported on Sunday taking the overall tally to 165711 In a press release Director of Health G Sriramulu said the fresh cases identified at the end of examination of 1302 samples were reported from Puducherry five Karaikal four and Mahe one Yanam an enclave of Puducherry in Andhra Pradesh reported no fresh case the Director said The Director said the active cases in the Union Territory were 142 that comprised 13 patients in hospitals and 129 patients in home quarantine Sriramulu said 37 patients recovered from the infection and were discharged while the overall recoveries were 163607 No fresh fatality was reported from any of the four regions and the death toll remained unchanged at 1962 Sriramulu said the health department has examined 2214081 samples so far and found 1859055 samples out of them to be negative The test positivity rate in the UT was 077 per cent while the fatality and recovery rates were 118 per cent and 9873 per cent respectively Sriramulu said the department has administered a total of 1590515 doses so far comprising 931303 first doses 646844 second doses and 12368 booster doses PTI COR HDA HDA
Puducherry Feb 26 PTI Puducherry reported 11 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday raising the overall tally in the Union Territory to 165701 In a press release Director of Health G Sriramulu said the fresh cases identified at the end of examination of 1518 samples were registered in Puducherry and Karaikal five cases each and Yanam one Mahe an enclave of Puducherry in Kerala reported no fresh case of the viral infection he said The Director said the active cases had come down to 169 which comprised 14 patients in hospitals and 155 in home quarantine Sriramulu said 42 patients recovered from the disease and were discharged while the overall recoveries in the UT were 163570 Two more persons both hailing from Puducherry succumbed to the viral infection raising the overall death toll to 1962 Sriramulu said the health department has examined 2212563 samples and has found 1857586 samples out of them to be negative The test positivity rate was 072 per cent while the fatality and recovery rates were 118 per cent and 9871 per cent respectively Sriramulu said the department has administered 1588474 doses which comprised 931039 first doses 645117 second doses and 12318 booster doses till now PTI COR HDA HDA
Puducherry Feb 25 PTI Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangasamy on Friday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to evacuate students from the Union Territory who are stranded in war-affected Ukraine In a press release from the Chief Ministers Office it said a group of parents of stranded students from Puducherry met Rangasamy at his chamber and sought immediate steps for their evacuation An official source told PTI that eight students four each from Puducherry and Karaikal regions are stranded in war-hit Ukraine The release said the CM spoke to both External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Indian Ambassador to Ukraine Partha Satpathy over phone and requested them to take steps immediately for the safe return of students from Puducherry The Chief Minister had also written to the Prime Minister seeking his intervention for the evacuation of affected students it added The official source said two of the eight students -- Maharaj and Vishalini -- were contacted by the CMO and the duo said they were safe and staying in a hostel PTI COR HDA HDA
