Surat Mar 19 PTI Two persons were killed and one sustained injuries after a portion of the second floor of a commercial complex collapsed in Gujarats Surat city on Saturday police said The incident took place at a two-storey commercial complex in Katargam locality an official said A long wall on the second floor of the structure which was being renovated collapsed on the ground killing Samir Sheikh 29 and Rohit Rathod 21 who were present there he said One person was rescued from the debris and rushed to a hospital for treatment the official said adding that people working at an embroidery unit on the first floor of the building were safely evacuated by the fire department Several vehicles parked in the buildings compound were damaged due to the collapse he said PTI COR KA ARU ARU

Surat Feb 21 PTI An 11-year-old girl was kidnapped raped and brutally murdered in Gujarats Surat district after which a man was arrested while his accomplice is being questioned police said on Monday and added that the victim was prima facie brutalised causing serious injuries to her private parts Police are investigating whether the girl was raped by one man or more persons were involved The incident occurred on Sunday near Palsana town located 15 km away from Surat an official said The victim girl was taken to a flat near her residence when her parents were away and raped there When her parents returned home and noticed she was missing they launched a search and found her lying grievously injured inside a room that was locked from outside not far from their residence the Palsana police station official said They rushed her to a private hospital where she was declared dead by doctors A case was registered under Indian Penal Code sections 302 Punishment for murder 376 Punishment for rape 341 wrongful restraint 342 wrongful confinement 361 kidnapping and provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences POCSO Act he said Addressing media persons on Monday evening Surat Range Inspector General of Police Rajkumar Pandian said that a man identified as Dayaram was arrested in connection with the crime He was arrested based on CCTV footage after it emerged during the investigation that he had purchased a lock to confine the girl inside the room after raping her the IG said According to the IG the accused has confessed to the crime His accomplice in the crime is being questioned Police are gathering medical evidence to ascertain whether the girl was raped by one or more persons Further investigation is underway Pandian said Narrating the sequence of events Pandian said the family members of the girl started looking for her after she didnt return home on Sunday evening When the girls mother returned to their flat located in a four-storey building on Sunday evening her younger son told her that his sister had not returned home The family members then started searching for her They found her locked inside a room not far from their house Pandian told reporters The victim was rushed to a private hospital where doctors found that she had succumbed due to grievous injuries to her vagina and other parts of the body he added PTI COR KA BNM NSK NSK

Ahmedabad Feb 19 PTI Three men were crushed to death when an unidentified vehicle hit their motorcycle on a highway in Gujarats Valsad district police said on Saturday The incident took place on Ahmedabad-Mumbai national highway near Pardi town of the district late on Friday night an official from Pardi police station said The victims fell on the highway after an unidentified vehicle hit their motorcycle and as they lay at the scene they were crushed to death by a heavy vehicle he said As per preliminary investigations the victims were from the same village in Dharampur taluka of the district and were travelling from Vapi to Valsad at the time of the accident the official said Efforts are on to track down the victims families and to identify the vehicle that hit the two-wheeler the official added PTI COR KA ARU ARU

Surat Dec 18 PTI The first three colleges in Surat city in Gujarat to get staff students and their guardians fully vaccinated against COVID-19 will be eligible for cash rewards of Rs 1 lakh Rs 75000 and Rs 50000 respectively said the local civic body on Saturday In a release the Surat Municipal Corporation also said a meeting will be held on December 21 of college principals to provide guidance on implementing COVID-19 appropriate behaviour The Surat civic body was the first in the state to announce that it had completed administering the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine to all eligible beneficiaries On Saturday the city reported eight new COVID-19 cases while five people were discharged It also administered 20801 vaccination doses during the day officials said PTI COR KA BNM BNM BNM

Surat Nov 30 PTI A woman allegedly strangled her three-year-old son to death before committing suicide at her parents house in Gujarats Surat city police said on Tuesday According to the police Priya Vandana 31 strangled her son and hanged herself from the ceiling fan in a room of her parents apartment in Rander locality of the city an official from Rander police station said The womans family found out about the deaths on Tuesday morning he said Vandana had separated from her husband due to domestic disputes and had been in her parents place since over three years the official said When Vandana and her son did not wake up in the morning her father opened the room door and found them dead he said The woman has left a suicide note accusing her husband of compelling her to kill their son and commit suicide the official said In the note Vandana wrote about her son stating that she loved him and was sorry for killing him the official said adding that further probe is underway PTI COR KA ARU ARU

Surat Nov 29 PTI Seventy-five people in the 7-70 age group including crorepatis and professionals embraced monkhood at a function organised here on Monday a Jain religious group said The newly-initiated monks and nuns included all the members of eight families as well as doctors engineers chartered accountants sportspersons and as many as 15 crorepatis said the organiser of the religious function held in Surats Vesu locality These people embraced Jain monkhood on the concluding day of the five-day Diksha Mahotsav mass initiation festival organised by Shanti-kanak Shramanopasak Trust-Adhyatma Parivar it said in a release It was a historic day when 75 people embraced monkhood at a mass programme with over 40000 devotees being witnesses to the celebration People from Surat Ahmedabad and Mumbai were among the 75 who became Jain monks and nuns the release said Those who adopted monastic life were in the age group of 7-70 with some 70 per cent of them being youths it added PTI COR KA BNM BNM BNM
