Nagpur Apr 23 PTI Police busted a prostitution racket and rescued two women after raiding a spa cum massage parlour in Dharampeth area of Nagpur in Maharashtra on Saturday an official said Police arrested a man for operating the sex racket under the garb of the spa and massage parlour A police official said that a decoy customer was sent to the spa After it was confirmed that the accused was accepting cash and providing young women to customers the police raided the parlour Cash and other material collectively worth Rs 21000 were seized A case has been registered under the Indian Penal Code and the Prevention of Immoral Trafficking Act the official said PTI COR NSK NSK
Nagpur Apr 23 PTI The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company MSEDCL has directed suppliers to provide a whopping 15 lakh power meters by September this year to overcome the shortage an official release has said One lakh new power meters will be available by April 30 and two lakh in May Thereafter 327 lakh meters will be available every month from June to September it said About 8-9 lakh new connections are commissioned by the MSEDCL every year At the same time the MSEDCL also needs two lakh meters per month for replacing faulty meters and other reasons At present 131 lakh meters are available in the field offices of MSEDCL till April 22 the release stated Besides the tender process to purchase 10 lakh smart metres is under consideration while the process of procuring 150 lakh three-phase meters is in the final stage The supply of these three-phase meters will be available by the end of May In view of increasing the consumer demand the process of procuring another 20 lakh single-phase meters has also been started the release stated As per the directions of the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission MERC work orders have been issued for the installation of prepaid meters for agricultural pumps which are connected under the high-pressure power distribution system to audit the energy of agricultural lines The process of installing 15 lakh prepaid meters for these farmers will be completed by December the release said PTI COR NSK NSK

Bilaspur Apr 19 PTI It was a mixed bag of emotions for officials at Chhattisgarhs Kanan Pendari Zoological Garden where a tigress gave birth to four cubs whereas another pregnant big cat died in labor with two unborn cubs in her womb both incidents separated by 24 hours The painful delivery caused the death of tigress Mausami at the zoological garden in the Bilaspur district around 415 pm on Monday a senior official of the zoological garden told reporters on Tuesday He said vets in the zoo attempted to save the two cubs who were still in the tigresss womb by performing surgery but they were found dead In the presence of Achanakmar Amarkantak Biosphere Reserves director and the zoo officials a team of veterinarians including Dr R M Tripathi Dr Ajeet Pandey and Dr Tripti Soni performed the autopsy and collected the viscera for further examination said the official Citing veterinarians he said Dystocia breech presentation was the cause behind the death of the tigress After the autopsy and other procedures the forest officials performed the last rites of the tigress the official added The pregnant big cat had shown preliminary symptoms of labor and she kept trying to deliver the cubs till Monday but breathed her last around 415 pm said the official Meanwhile the zoo officials informed that tigress Rambha gave birth to four cubs on Sunday at the same zoo Earlier Rambha who was born in the same zoo on April 25 2015 delivered two cubs Bhairav and Durga on November 11 2018 Currently all the cubs are healthy and under constant monitoring of officials PTI COR NSK NSK
Thane Apr 18 PTI A 31-year-old man from Bhiwandi city in Maharashtra was convicted by a special POCSO court for raping a teenage girl in 2018 and sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for seven years Special judge V Virkar also imposed a fine of Rs 8000 on the convict identified as Saddam alias Guddu Istrail Ansari The prosecution examined a total of nine witnesses during the trial Ansari had asked the 16-year-old girl to accompany him on his motorcycle on April 17 2018 when she stepped out of her house the prosecution said He took the girl to a room located near a hillock and raped her He held her captive until the parents of the girl traced her to the room on April 18 the court was told The court convicted Ansari under various charges including rape and wrongful confinement of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences POCSO Act PTI COR NSK NSK

Thane Mar 26 PTI The district court here in Maharashtra has convicted a 37-year-old tribal from Palghar district for murdering a widow in 2018 after she resisted his sexual advances and handed him life imprisonment Additional sessions court judge and special judge SC and ST Act GP Shirsat also imposed a fine of Rs 3000 on the convict Sanjay Kharpade after convicting him under section 302 Punishment for murder of the Indian Penal Code IPC on Friday Additional Public Prosecutor Rekha Hiwrale said Kharpade a resident of Jambha Kokerpada hamlet in Vikramgad tehsil used to seek sexual favours from the 65-year-old victim by threatening her children He had tried to rape her under influence of alcohol On April 29 2018 Kharpade fatally attacked the woman at her house with a sharp weapon Kharpade and the victim were residents of the same area the prosecution said The court rejected the defences argument that the victim was attacked by a wild animal even though it underlined certain contradictions and omissions in the complaint lodged by the daughter of the deceased PTI COR NSK NSK
