Kolkata Feb 23 PTI CPIM general secretary Sitaram Yechury on Wednesday condemned the alleged killing of student leader Anis Khan whose death has sparked protests in various parts of West Bengal claiming that this is a reflection of the law and order situation in the state He said that the delay in arresting the culprits is raising suspicion as to what is the motive behind the killing I strongly condemn the incident This is a reflection of law and order in the state he told reporters on the sidelines of a programme here Khans family members have alleged that he was pushed off the third floor of their residence at Amta in Howrah district on Friday night by four persons with one donning a police uniform and the others wearing the dress of civic volunteers Even though Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has formed a special investigation team SIT and promised an impartial probe the father of the deceased has stuck to his demand for a CBI investigation The government should take a call on the fathers demand for a CBI probe Yechury said The SIT on Wednesday arrested a homeguard and a civic volunteer in connection with the case PTI AMR NN NN
Kolkata Dec 20 PTI A CPIM candidate on Monday filed a petition before the Calcutta High Court seeking that the Kolkata Municipal Corporation KMC elections held on the previous day be declared null and void due to violence by TMC supporters while the BJP separately prayed for being allowed to submit evidence of such acts in connection with its petition pending before the court A division bench comprising Chief Justice Prakash Shrivastava and Justice R Bharadwaj which is seized of BJPs petition had on Friday directed the State Election Commission state DGP and Kolkata Police commissioner to submit reports of compliance ensuring peaceful free and fair conduct of KMC elections by December 23 The division bench before which CPIM candidate Debalina Sarkars lawyer prayed for permission to file the petition allowed the prayer and said that the matter will be heard together with the BJPs petition on December 23 Alleging acts of violence by ruling Trinamool Congress supporters Sarkars lawyer Sabyasachi Chatterjee said that the petition seeks that the KMC elections held on Sunday be declared null and void The state BJP separately moved the bench seeking to produce evidence of violence during Sundays civic polls in the city which the court said may be brought up during the December 23 hearing The state BJP had moved the division bench challenging a single bench order that refused its prayer for deployment of central paramilitary forces for the KMC elections PTI AMR ACD ACD
Srinagar Sep 22 PTI CPIM leader Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami on Wednesday said the summary dismissal of employees with suspected terror links was sending a wrong signal to the workforce in Jammu and Kashmir He urged the UT administration to afford the affected persons a hearing before taking a final decision If at all there are serious allegations against anybody the procedure is laid down which is to give them a notice provide them an opportunity of being heard That is the least which the government should do Tarigami said He was reacting to the administrations decision to terminate six employees for suspected terror links The communist leader said the administration should also consider the impact of these summary dismissals on the general working and psyche of the employees Virtually it sends a message of creating fear among the larger sections of the employees and I am afraid it will impact the psyche and the working of the government employees adversely he said Tarigami said employees are the instruments of carrying forward the development and governance agenda This is a machinery and if this machinery is frightened or demoralised it will affect the functioning of the government itself he added PTI MIJ AQS AQS
