Mumbai Mar 30 PTI Police have seized two fishing boats off the Mumbai coast and recovered 10950 litres of diesel illegally stocked in them an official said on Wednesday Two persons found in the boats were arrested in this connection he said The operation was conducted by the Yellow Gate police station here on a specific information about the illegally stocked diesel he said The accused persons identified as Deepakkumar Tandel 42 and Sureshbhai Tandel 47 were in deep sea for the last 15 days and it is suspected that they had procured the diesel illegally from big vessels anchored off the Gujarat coast the official said The police arrested the duo and seized both the fishing boats he said adding that they were produced in a local court which sent them to six days of police custody PTI DC NP NP

Mumbai Jan 20 PTI Police have registered a case against BJPs Mumbai unit chief Mangal Prabhat Lodha and 31 others for staging a protest near the Mantralaya here an official said on Thursday The protest was organised by the BJP on Wednesday against Maharashtra Congress chief Nana Patoles remarks referring to Modi he said During the protest police took Lodha and others into custody and they were taken to the Marine Drive police station later he said adding they were booked under section 188 disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant of the Indian Penal Code IPC Patole who had a brief stint with the BJP as an MP earlier has kicked up a controversy with his purported remark that he could beat up badmouth Modi He has however denied that he was speaking about Prime Minister Narendra Modi But the BJP has been targeting Patole over the remarks with several leaders terming his clarification as false The saffron party has been demanding strict police action against Patole and seeking his arrest PTI DC NP NP

Mumbai Dec 30 PTI Amid intelligence inputs about a possible terror threat in Mumbai on the eve of the New Year the city police have beefed up security at railway stations and other public places and also cancelled the weekly offs of its personnel so that the entire strength remains available officials said on Thursday In order to maintain law and order situation police are on alert and keeping a strict vigil across the city on December 31 Considering the possibility of peoples gathering at prominent places like the Gateway of India Marine Drive a large number of personnel will be deployed in the city on the eve of the New Year a police official said As there were some inputs about a possible terror threat during the New Year celebrations and as railway stations are soft targets the security of prominent stations has also been increased another official said In the wake of emergence of the new Omicron variant of COVID-19 the Mumbai Police have prohibited New Year celebrations and gatherings in any closed or open space including hotels and restaurants The orders were issued on Wednesday under Criminal Procedure Code CrPC Section 144 by Deputy Commissioner of Police operations S Chaitanya Mumbai police have prohibited all the new year gatherings and parties in closed and open places there is a possibility that people can gather in the groups not more than four persons the official said Besides the city police the Government Railway Police GRP have also stepped up security at prominent railway stations considering the threat and anti sabotage measures have been taken he added In a tweet Quaiser Khalid Commissioner GRP Mumbai said In view of the covid 19 situation we advise people to adhere to government directions on the issue We grpmumbai have deployed large manpower for checking frisking anti-sabotage measures at important Rly Stn We will enforce laws firmly We request peoples cooperation Khalid added in a tweet PTI DC NP NP

Mumbai Nov 26 PTI Former Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh on Friday appeared before the police officials in neighbouring Thane in connection with the investigation into an extortion case registered against him there sources said Singh reached the Thane Nagar police station along with his lawyer around 1030 am they said The probe team is likely to record his statement the sources said adding that zonal DCP Avinash Ambure was present at the police station The extortion case against Singh and 28 others including six police officers was registered by the Thane police on the basis of a complaint lodged by builder Ketan Tanna in July this year A non-bailable warrant was issued against Singh in the case Singh who was recently declared an absconder by a court arrived in Mumbai on Thursday after remaining incommunicado for several months After his arrival he was questioned for seven hours by the Mumbai polices crime branch in a separate extortion case Singh is facing a total of five extortion cases in Maharashtra He had been shunted out as Mumbais top cop earlier this year after police officer Sachin Waze was arrested in the case of an SUV with explosives found near industrialist Mukesh Ambanis house Antilia and the subsequent suspicious death of businessman Mansukh Hiran The Supreme Court granted Singh protection from arrest a few days ago PTI DC NP NP

Mumbai Oct 21 PTI The Narcotics Control Bureau NCB on Thursday recorded the statement of Bollywood actor Ananya Panday after it allegedly came across some WhatsApp chats during its investigation against Aryan Khan son of superstar Shah Rukh Khan in a drugs case sources said Ananyas actor father Chunky Panday accompanied her to the NCB office located at Ballard Estate in south Mumbai where they reached around 4 pm After recording her statement Ananya left the agency office around 615 pm the sources said adding that she is likely to be called on Friday as well The NCBs Mumbai zonal unit which is probing the cruise drugs seizure case in which Aryan Khan has been arrested visited Ananya Pandays residence in Bandra this morning and summoned her to record her statement later in the day they said Ananyas name cropped up in the case after certain WhatsApp chats between her and Aryan Khan were allegedly found in the latters mobile phone the sources said adding that earlier in the day the NCB officials seized her mobile phone and laptop However the NCB officials are yet to clarify about her role if any in the case There was heavy deployment of police outside the NCB office and a large number of media persons were also present there when the Panday father-daughter duo arrived in the afternoon Aryan Khan was arrested with a few others on October 3 after the NCB raided a cruise ship off the Mumbai coast and claimed to have seized drugs including charas An NCB team visited Shah Rukh Khans residence Mannat in suburban Bandra this afternoon for seeking from him certain material related to the investigation into the case an official said On Thursday morning Shah Rukh Khan met Aryan at the Arthur Road jail in the cityi where the latter has been lodged following his arrest in the case PTI DC NP NP

Mumbai Sep 25 PTI Mumbai police on Saturday arrested Bonito Chhabria son of car designer Dilip Chhabria in connection with a case of cheating registered against him on the basis of comedian Kapil Sharmas complaint an official said Bonito was called for questioning in the case by the crime branch officials After being questioned he was placed under arrest he said Sharma had lodged the complaint with the Mumbai police last year alleging that he was cheated of Rs 53 crore by Dilip Chhabria and others the official said In the complaint Sharma had told the police that he had paid more than Rs 5 crore to Chhabria between March and May 2017 to design a vanity bus for him But as there was no progress made till 2019 Sharma had approached the National Company Law Tribunal NCLT However Chabbria last year sent a bill of Rs 120 crore to Sharma as parking charges for the vanity bus After that Sharma approached the police and lodged his complaint During the investigation of the case the role of Bonito Chhabria came to light Therefore he was called for questioning and later placed under arrest by the crime branch he said Last year the Mumbai crime branch had arrested Dilip Chhabria in connection with multi crore car financing scam PTI DC NP NP
