Mumbai Mar 26 PTI Mumbai-bound traffic on the Mumbai-Pune expressway was disrupted on Saturday morning after an oil tanker overturned in one of the lanes causing spilling of oil on the busy highway a police official said The oil spill was caused after a speeding tanker overturned in the Pune-Mumbai lane of the six-lane expressway around 530 AM the official said The incident occurred near the spot where the British-era Amrutanjan bridge once stood before it was pulled down two years ago the official said The vehicular traffic towards Mumbai is totally disrupted Hundreds of vehicles are stuck in a massive traffic snarl A 30-km patch of the expressway is affected due to the incident he said Due to the oil spill a container truck skidded as per the preliminary information Teams of highway police local police and other authorities are trying to restore traffic on the expressway The traffic movement on the Mumbai-Pune lane of the expressway is normal he said PTI DC NSK NSK

Mumbai Jan 19 PTI As many as 499 police personnel were found infected with coronavirus in Maharashtra in the last 24 hours an official said on Wednesday The infected personnel include 95 police officers He said 821 police officers and 3269 police personnel total 4090 currently remain admitted at various facilities including home isolation in Maharashtra The total number of infected police officers in Maharashtra is 5854 since the outbreak of the pandemic in March 2020 A total of 40959 police personnel ranging from the rank of the constable to assistant sub-inspector were found infected in the state he added Until now 46 officers and 459 personnel of the Maharashtra police force have succumbed to COVID-19 he said In Mumbai a total of 10666 police personnel were infected with coronavirus so far of whom 126 died Currently the number of active cases in the Mumbai Police force stands at 1273 Maharashtra has been witnessing a surge in new COVID-19 cases including patients with highly-transmissible Omicron strain The state on Tuesday recorded 39207 new coronavirus infections 26 per cent more than Monday and 53 pandemic-related deaths as per the health department The overall coronavirus caseload in Maharashtra stood at 7282128 while the death toll was 141885 as of Tuesday PTI DC NSK NSK
Mumbai Nov 17 PTI The Anti-Narcotics Cell ANC of the Mumbai Polices crime branch has busted a Mephedrone MD manufacturing unit operated at a farmhouse in Maharashtras Kolhapur district and arrested two persons an official said on Wednesday The estimated cost of the chemical used in the manufacture of the banned drug and other equipment is Rs 235 crore he said ANC teams from Mumbai and the Kolhapur Police on Tuesday raided the farmhouse at Dholgarwadi village in Chandgad taluka of the western Maharashtra district located 375 km away from Mumbai acting on the information given by a woman drug peddler who was nabbed in suburban Bandra recently the official added He said 39 litres of the chemicals used in the manufacture of Mephedrone and other equipment were seized An advocate is the mastermind of this illegal MD manufacturing unit the official said adding that the main suspect is on the run PTI DC NSK NSK
Mumbai Sep 25 PTI A 32-year-old police constable was killed on Saturday when a mini-truck carrying illegally mined sand in Solapur district of Maharashtra he was trying to stop knocked him down police said The incident occurred around 930 AM at Mangalwedha village 380 km from Mumbai when the constable Ganesh Sonalkar tried to stop the mini-truck which was carrying the sand excavated illegally from the Bhima river a police official said He said the driver of the mini-truck didnt stop and dashed Sonalkar crushing him to death Two persons including driver Ranjeet Sudke 19 who is the main accused and vehicle owner Sagar Masal 23 were arrested and a minor was detained the official said An FIR was registered and the investigation is underway he added PTI DC NSK NSK

Mumbai Sep 21 PTI A Maharashtra State Transport ST bus driver committed suicide by hanging himself inside a bus in the Sangamner depot in Ahmednagar district on Tuesday an official said The driver Subhash Telore was found hanging from a rod inside the bus by his colleagues the official said Telore was driving a bus from Pathardi to Nashik but took a halt for a night at the Sangamner depot about 250 km from Mumbai he said The exact trigger behind the drastic step is not known immediately but the preliminary information suggested that Telore ended his life due to some personal reasons he said This is the second incident of suicide by an ST bus driver in the last month in Maharashtra he said ST bus driver Kamlesh Bedse 44 had killed himself in Dhule due to indebtedness and low salary the official said PTI DC NSK NSK
