11 migrant workers from Bihar killed in major fire accident in Hyderabad

Hyderabad Mar 23 PTI Eleven migrant workers were charred to death in a major fire accident at a scrap godown here in the early hours of Wednesday The deceased workers all hailing from Bihar were sleeping in a room constructed above the godown at Bhoiguda here when the incident happened fire and police officials said The fire officials received a call at 355 am and eight fire tenders were rushed to the spot The blaze was extinguished by around 7 am they said The workers could not save themselves as there was only one internal spiral staircase though one person managed to escape after jumping out of the room they said Based on preliminary investigation a fire official said the blaze started from the scrap godown and spread to the room above The workers appeared to have tried to escape but soon fell unconscious after inhaling the thick smoke It was a heart-wrenching scene as bodies charred beyond recognition were found in a heap as they apparently collapsed upon inhaling the smoke he said DNA tests would be conducted to identify the deceased a police official told PTI The cause of the fire would be known after investigation he said Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao expressed grief over the incident and announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh to the families of each of the deceased He asked Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar to make arrangements to send the bodies to their native places in Bihar Kumar who visited the spot said immediate steps would be taken to prevent recurrence of such incidents PTI VVK SJR SJR HDA HDA

Hyderabad Nov 23 PTI Eleven migrant labourers were injured after a cooking gas cylinder exploded in a three-storied building at Nanakramguda area here early on Tuesday morning Preliminary investigation suggested that the blast was due to a leak in the LPG cylinder on the ground floor of the building rented by some labourers police said Eleven people sustained injuries All migrant labourers working in nearby construction sites and other places hail from Uttar Pradesh Bihar and other states The injured were shifted to different hospitals and the condition of two of them remains critical as they suffered more than 50 per cent burns they said It appears that the gas stove was left on after cooking last night following which the gas leaked The explosion took place at around 445 am when one of them switched on the light in the washroom A wall on the second floor of the building collapsed due to the impact of the blast they added A probe is on PTI VVK ROH ROH

11 new coronavirus cases in UP COVID death toll remains unchanged

Lucknow Sep 26 PTI Eleven fresh COVID-19 cases were reported in Uttar Pradesh taking the total number of cases in the state to 1709772 on Sunday a health bulletin stated The death toll stood at 22890 with no fresh COVID-19 deaths Of the 11 fresh cases two each were reported from Prayagraj and Gautan Buddh Nagar the UP government said in a statement issued here In the past 24 hours 12 COVID-19 patients have recovered from the disease and so far 1686706 people have recovered in the state The count of active COVID-19 cases in the state stands at 176 the statement said In the past 24 hours more than 217 lakh samples have been sent for testing while over 777 crore samples have been sent for testing till now it said PTI NAV HDA
