New Delhi Apr 26 PTI Seventy per cent of the people who received a booster dose of the Covid vaccine did not contract the disease during the third wave according to a new study that covered around 6000 people in IndiaThe study led by Dr Rajeev Jayadevan co-chairman of the Indian Medical Associations national task force on coronavirus said that 45 per cent of the vaccinated people who did not take a precautionary dose reported Covid in the third waveThe survey covered 5971 vaccinated people of which 24 per cent were aged below 40 and 50 per cent belonged to the 40-59 age groupWomen accounted for 45 per cent of the people surveyed while 53 per cent were healthcare workersOf the 5971 people 2383 took the booster dose and 30 per cent of them reported Covid during the third wave it said The boosted group also had a greater proportion of healthcare workers and higher N95 useThe researchers also concluded that a long gap after the second dose correlated with a higher chance of infection during the third wave Also giving a third dose before a six-month gap did not make a difference in the infection rate it saidThe study also showed that the third wave affected those aged below 40 the most -- around 45 per cent of them contracted the diseaseAround 396 per cent in the 40-59 age cohort and around 318 per cent in the 60-79 age group reported Covid during the third wave Only 212 per cent of the people aged above 80 were infected Among the 2311 people who were infected during the third wave 48 per cent were asymptomatic while 53 per cent had mild symptoms Moderate severity was reported by 415 per cent while 069 per cent had severe diseaseThe researchers said Covaxin and Covishield recipients had the same rate of infection in the third wave A total of 5157 took Covishield and 2010 39 per cent of them reported Covid during the third wave of the infection Of the 523 people who tookCovaxin 210 40 per cent reported Covid The third wave of the pandemic hit India in late December last year and subsided by MarchThe government authorised a third dose of the same vaccine forhealthcare and frontline workers and the people aged above 60 from January 10 to mitigate the severity of infections hospitalisation and death PTI GVS ANB ANB

New Delhi Mar 25 PTI Around 93 per cent of households in Delhi now have access to piped water supply and water production during the summer season is being maintained at 953 million gallons a day MGD consistently according to the Delhi Economic Survey 2021-22The survey report presented in the assembly on Friday by Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia also said Delhis water demand is set to increase to 1505 MGD this year against the expected supply of 1200 MGDWater is supplied to about 20 million population through the existing water supply network of 15041-km-long pipelines and about 125 underground reservoirs UGRs it saidBesides a total of 407 new water tankers with stainless steel containers fitted with GPS have been engaged in improving the water tanker supply delivery system in the city Apart from these approx 530 mild steel hired tankers during peak summer 250 newly purchased stainless steel tankers are being added to the existing fleet to supplement water supply in water deficit areas the report saidBased on the norm of 60 gallons per capita per day GPCD a population of 23 million as per projections required 1380 MGD of water this monthIt said the government has been able to provide regular water supply to 1583 88 per cent of the 1797 unauthorised colonies while 602 have been connected to the sewer network so far PTI GVS ANB ANB

Delhi reports 24 COVID-19 cases no fatalities

New Delhi Aug 23 PTI The national capital recorded 17 COVID-19 cases the lowest since March 28 last year and zero death was reported for the fourth day on the trot on Monday according to data shared by the health department here This is the 14th time since the starting of the second wave of the pandemic that Delhi logged zero fatality in a day The low number of cases can also be attributed to fewer tests 46251 conducted the previous day With the new cases the overall infection tally in the city has climbed to 1437334 Of this over 1411 lakh patients have recovered from the disease The death toll stands at 25079 a bulletin issued by the department showed Twenty-six people have succumbed to the disease this month so far The cumulative death toll was 25053 on July 31 On Sunday the city reported 24 COVID-19 cases as the positivity rate stood at 004 per cent On Saturday the capital had reported 19 coronavirus cases According to covid19Indiaorg a crowdsourced initiative that collects data on COVID-19 and vaccination in India Delhi had reported nine cases on March 28 last year On April 15 last year 17 people were diagnosed with the disease There are 374 active cases in Delhi at present and 107 of them are under home isolation while the positivity rate is 004 per cent the bulletin said The number of containment zones stands at 228 it said Delhi battled a brutal second wave of the pandemic that claimed a massive number of lives with the shortage of oxygen at hospitals across the city adding to the woes On April 20 Delhi had reported 28395 cases the highest in the city since the beginning of the pandemic On April 22 the case positivity rate was 362 per cent the highest so far The highest number of 448 deaths was reported on May 3 The city government has been ramping up health infrastructure to prevent a repeat of the crisis witnessed during the peak of the second wave of coronavirus in April and May Steps have been taken to increase the number of hospital beds to accommodate up to 37000 cases a day and to become self-reliant in terms of oxygen supply According to officials around 160 PSA oxygen generation plants with a total capacity of 14811 metric tonnes are being installed at various government and private hospitals in the city While 66 plants are being installed in Delhi government hospitals 10 are being set up in central government hospitals and 84 in private healthcare facilities According to government data 124 crore vaccine doses have been administered in the capital since the inoculation exercise started on January 16 Over 35 lakh people have received both doses PTI GVS ANB ANB
