Indore Dec 30 PTI In an unusual agitation traders of readymade garments in Madhya Pradeshs Indore on Thursday fried pakodas prepared poha and sold vegetables to protest the Centres decision to hike the Good and Services Tax GST from five to 12 per cent on their businesses According to eyewitnesses the traders staged their novel protest near Rajwada a historical palace in Indore city which is dubbed as Mini Mumbai for its textile shops We tried to send a message that if the GST hike isnt rolled back we are going to shut our shops and start selling pakodas poha and vegetables said Akshay Jain the president of the Indore Retail Garment Association The Central government has acted against its self-reliant India stance by hiking the GST on a swadeshi industry he said The move will deal a severe blow to Indian garment makers and enable manufacturers in China and Bangladesh to hold a sway in this segment Jain said We dont accept this 12 per cent GST hike Our businesses will be ruined and the move will burn a hole in the pocket of customers he added PTI HWP LAL ARU ARU
Indore Nov 25 PTI Three more fully vaccinated Army officers participating in a course at the Indian Institute of Management in Madhya Pradeshs Indore tested positive for coronavirus taking the number of infected personnel to 14 in the last five days an official said on Thursday Five persons including three Army officers tested positive for the infection in the district in the last 24 hours the official said The infected personnel were asymptomatic and were undergoing treatment at the Military Hospital at Mhow about 25 km from the district headquarters district chief medical and health officer Dr B S Satiya said The 14 infected officers had joined the six-month certificate course in Business Management nearly two-and-a-half-month ago he said Meanwhile an IIM-I official said that offline physical classes for the Army officers has been discontinued after they contracted the disease and the course is now being conducted online The 60 participants of the course were not staying in the IIM-I campus and a separate classroom had been set up for them he added PTI HWP LAL ARU ARU
Indore Oct 28 PTI The Economic Offences Wing EOW of the police on Thursday raided the properties of a clerk posted with the civic body in Madhya Pradeshs Indore city in connection with a case of disproportionate assets an official said Based on a complaint the raids were conducted at the house and two other properties of Rajkumar Salve 50 a clerk with the accounts department of the Indore Municipal Corporation EOW superintendent of police SP Dhananjay Shah said Officials allegedly found gold and silver jewellery along with documents related to investments running into lakhs of rupees during raids he said We have also found out about a three-storey house a flat and two immovable properties of Salve during the searches the SP said Salve had joined the IMC as a casual staffer in 1997 and was regularised permanent staffer in 2016 he said In 24 years of duty the accused had earned Rs 26 lakh in salary while the raids suggest that he owns movable and immovable properties worth Rs 15 crore Shah said Salve has been booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act and further probe is underway he added PTI HWP LAL ARU ARU
Indore Sep 24 PTI In a crackdown on land mafia the administration in Madhya Pradeshs Indore on Friday demolished illegal structures which had come up on 38 acres of government land worth Rs 1000 crore in the city an official said The demolition drive was launched following a directive from Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan the official said Under the drive we demolished illegal constructions on 38 acres of government land at different places in Kanadia area of the city additional district magistrate ADM Pawan Jain told reporters here The market value of the land freed of encroachments is Rs 1000 crore he said Two wedding venues that had come up illegally on government land were also razed under the drive jointly run by the district administration Indore Municipal Corporation IMC and police Jain said As many as 90 big and small shops that had encroached on government land were torn down in Kanadia area IMC deputy commissioner Sandeep Soni said The crackdown was initiated after the chief minister recently directed the local administration to launch a drive against land mafia to remove encroachments from government land PTI HWP LAL ARU ARU
